Tangolima600 Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 After hearing SimHQ's interview with Wags confirming the new CAS support system in the upcoming A-10C, would there be potential to port that system to Blackshark, provided such a system exists IRL?
EinsteinEP Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 CAS (Close Air Support) is a type of mission, not a piece of equipment. The Ka-50 can perform CAS missions just fine as it is now. Shoot to Kill. Play to Have Fun.
Tangolima600 Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 Ah, you're right, I should rephrase my question... Dcs A10c will feature a jtac/forward observer roles that will be able to run targetting coordinates to the cas. My question is could such a feature be ported into blackshark in any form?
Prophet4no1 Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 (edited) I think he is referring to on call CAS. That is not something choppers are normally used for. Choppers are normally close enough to be scrambled pretty quick if needed or will be sent in to cover infantry and vehicle movement from the very start. Then normally wont just be hanging out some place waiting to be called in. The A-10 can do this because it has a greater loiter time plus can take advantage of mid air refuelling. So, they can fly all day until the need to go back to rest the pilot or run out of weapons. Edited June 18, 2010 by Prophet4no1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Tangolima600 Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 Alright, that's all I needed to know, it makes sense.
EinsteinEP Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Dcs A10c will feature a jtac/forward observer roles that will be able to run targetting coordinates to the cas. My question is could such a feature be ported into blackshark in any form?In DCS:Black Shark mission editor you can set triggers to request CAS support just like they were coming from an observer. Simple mission example: 1. An observer group stationary at point A. 2. An inactive enemy group is at point B, set to advance on the friendly observer once activated. 2. A trigger is set to activate enemy group once the player in Ka-50 enters a zone around the enemy. The trigger also sends the message "CAS requested at coordinates ###, target type ###, friendlies at coordinates ###". (you can download a joint pub 3-09.3 to get the full 9-line message if you want it to be by-the-book accurate) 3. Pilot Ka50 reads the message, flies to given coordinates, and opens big ol' can of whoop ass. Voila, JTAS/FAC observer in DCS: Black Shark. Shoot to Kill. Play to Have Fun.
Zenra Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 That sounds like a good way to handle it, EinsteinEP - I need to try that. One question, tho: what do you mean by, "(you can download a joint pub 3-09.3 to get the full 9-line message if you want it to be by-the-book accurate)"? Thanks for the tip... Zenra Intel i7 930 2.8GHz; ATI HD5850 1GB; 1TB Serial ATA-II; 12GB DDR3-1333; 24 x DL DVD+/-RW Drive; 800W PSU; Win7-64; TM Warthog HOTAS
Tangolima600 Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 Pub 3-09.3 is a military publication on cas support, here's the link.. http://forsvaret.dk/FLOS/Documents/APS%202010/jp3_09_3.pdf
Tangolima600 Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 What object would be considered an 'observer group'? Having trouble finding it.
Tangolima600 Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 (edited) After reading the manual it looks like the Fac message is just a text message trigger you make yourself, not giving coordinates to input in the PVI-800. Again, this method is probably not used IRL. Edited June 18, 2010 by Tangolima600
Tangolima600 Posted June 19, 2010 Author Posted June 19, 2010 On second thought, Einstein's suggestion isn't that bad... just not as dynamic as I would of hoped, but nonetheless has potential.
EinsteinEP Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Tangolima600, just listened to the Matt Wagner interview: I didn't know there was an AI FAC capability coming to DCS: Warthog! Way cool! I'm hope it's as awesome as it sounds! It would also be cool if something like that can get ported to Black Shark so we don't have to do the mission trigger "workarounds". Shoot to Kill. Play to Have Fun.
