I was wondering if Fort Irwin, CA is modeled for the Nellis training? I use to work at Fort Irwin, CA, which is home to the US Army desert training center. When we trained force on force (OPFOR v. BLUEFOR), Nellis would participate with both Red and Blue aircraft including A-10A, F-16A/C, etc. The Red AF would try to stop the Blue AF from reaching Fort Irwin. At Irwin, the A-10s and F-16s would provide CAS and interdiction missions. I was just wondering if this will be modeled? If not, I think it should be. One of the great things about force on force at Irwin was the large scale battles which included OPFOR ground and air equipment (we've all seen the UH-1 modded to "look" like Hind helos). It would give a great battle in the desert that actually does occur and not just a target range in Vegas.

Just a thought.

So what your saying is you want another airfield in the Nevada terrain rather than Fort Irwin specifically...?

Irwin only has a dirt strip used by cargo mostly. No what I was talking about is each approximately 6 weeks, there's force on force battle between ground forces (Soviet weapons vs. US Army). In the battle, aircraft from China Lake NAS and Nellis (sometimes Camp Pendelton and El Toro *before closing*) will provide CAS, interdiction, Wild Weasel, etc missions over the Fort Irwin range including live fire missions.

Fort Irwin is ~ 120 miles from Nellis (probably less in the air), so I was wondering if Fort Irwin was modeled and if so will we a ground battle to support.

Regards.
