K-Nadian87 Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Hello everyone, I just recently got my wings, so to speak, so pardon my noob questions. I was hoping someone could direct me to some help regarding navigation to airfields. When im in the air and switch to nav mode and landing mode, how do I know what airfield Im being directed to? I see that ctrl and Shift cycle my destinations, but how do I know which airfield destination is which? Sometimes I request to land and I soon find out I contacted the wrong tower. Lastly, I read in the manual (yes, I did read a great deal of it) that it is possible to restart a stopped engine (a hotstart?) given you have enough air moving through it. Ive been trying this in the A10 and have been unsuccessful, any tips? Thanks in advance!
hassata Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 I'd also like to add whether there is anyway to tell which waypoint your are headed to in the SU25T. I suspect no, other than knee pad and good notes [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
71st_Mastiff Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 (edited) Right cntrl tilde key the key next to the number one on the key board uper right. RCntrl+"~" while in ILS mode, the same key when in nav mode for steerpoints. K-Nadian87 Posted August 1, 2010 Author Posted August 1, 2010 roger that, but does the number next to the steerpoint number on my hud symbolize WHICH airfield i've changed my heading to? what i see is something like "2.122.4" and under that is a distance. when hitting ctrl and tilde, the number next to the 2, ie "2.###.#" will change.... what do those number represent? Do i simply have to hit tilde until im on the heading with the least distance to travel (closest airfield)? to be honest, I dont even know if you were answering me or the guy who decided to drop a random question in my thread. thanks either way dude.
hassata Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Sorry man-thought they were a bit related. I myself use the shortest distance method as from the point the comes up in rtn mode for home field. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
71st_Mastiff Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 yes what hassata said. the numbers for steerpoint are the set waypoint in nav mod which also give metrics or miles depending on A/C. and the miles or meterics for the ILS mode. K-Nadian87 Posted August 1, 2010 Author Posted August 1, 2010 hey no prob hassata. thanks to both of you.
K-Nadian87 Posted August 1, 2010 Author Posted August 1, 2010 For the sake of not starting another new thread, can anyone tell me if I can flip my instruments off after powering engines down?? I read that it might be possible in blackshark, just wondering how much can be done when ive completed my mission (as of now im just landing, power down engines, opening canopy).
topdog Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Apart from taxi to park, wheel brakes on, engines shutdown, canopy open, there's not much else to really do (turn lighting off..) in Lockon. The detailed startup/shutdown procedures applying to Blackshark is what will be added to other 'DCS module' craft like the A10C. Wags' most recent producer notes show how different this can be when that module is released compared to what you are used to now: Until then things are a lot simpler for the fixed wings. 1 [ i7 2600k 4.6GHz :: 16GB Mushkin Blackline LV :: EVGA GTX 1080ti 11GB ] [ TM Warthog / Saitek Rudder :: Oculus Rift :: Obutto cockpit :: Acer HN274H 27" 120Hz :: 3D Vision Ready ]
hassata Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 You can also shut down electrical power (at least on the SU25T), which takes care of the hud, instruments, and INS. Check options for the actual key-I have it mapped. I also believe you have to turn on electric and stay wing level for at least three minutes to give the INS time to align so that some of your instruments don't go out of whack. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
