jwputnam Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 I have read the manual in it's entirety and I have watched all of the training videos (I am anal as hell). I am also an instrument rated pilot with lots and lots of hours, but I am having a hell of a time with navigating the A-10. Three stupid questions: 1. Why the hell is the HUD display not centered sometimes? I can correct it with rudder trim, but I am sure that is not correct. Drives me nuts! I gotta being doing something wrong. 2. I have read and researched lots, but I still do not get how and when to switch to ILS mode. This is just not intuitive to me. I realize that my final waypoint in the training exercise takes me to the IAF. When I get very near it, I switch to ILS and it shows me a #2 (for what reason I have no idea) and gives me a distance to the field, but if I cycle it again, I still get a #2 with a new distance....which I am assuming is the next nearest airfield. What is the significance of the #2? 3. Why are the ILS needles sometimes bright yellow and sometimes a dull greenish yellow. (I know....this is REALLY the most stupid question!) I have a feeling it is because I have selected a too distant field in my experimenting or when have intentionally shot the back course for giggles. At any rate, I truly appreciate your help.
104th_Crunch Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 1. It is offset because of wind in the mission. I wish this was mentioned somewhere in the manual because of the number of times it gets asked. ILS Help http://flankertraining.com/ http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=33659&highlight=ILSN
jwputnam Posted August 16, 2010 Author Posted August 16, 2010 Thanks! The attached urls did the trick. Can't believe that I didn't find them in my relentless searching of the forums.
RipKirby Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 How would wind affect the hud INSIDE the cockpit?
nomdeplume Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 How would wind affect the hud INSIDE the cockpit? It's a pilot aid to help them know how much the wind is affecting their flight path. I'm sure the real A-10 would have a switch to toggle it, but FC2 doesn't reach that level of fidelity.
Succellus Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 The HUD reflect the wind influence to help the pilot land taking it in account and compensate for crosswind. Anyway, you don t need ILS to land, the few i played i always end up without HUD, usually a damaged engine, hydraulic failure and a Bitching betty that doesn t shut up and drive me nuts:mad:. The only worst thing is the FC2 GUI music that is awesomely awfull and tiresome. Even with all that i land with or without wheel in bingo fuel without any major problem than a tired forearm while i fight my Cougar to compensate inbound to any friendly airbase i can locate on the map. I really wish comunication was better so we can contact divert airbase to anouce ourselves and get some ATC help in flying home. Anyway, Landing is surely too easy even in full simulator mode, or Microprose fleet defender and DID EF2000 V2.0 where damn good teatchers . It's under the "Systems" category in Options -> Controls as Audible Warning Reset. The only worst thing is the FC2 GUI music that is awesomely awfull and tiresome.:mad:I quite like it but if you're spending a long time in the GUI it does get repetitive - shame they didn't have more tracks. You can turn down the music volume on the options screen. Set it to 0 and it won't bother you.

A pity i havent found a form the music used to my Itunes or any other folder containing music. nomdeplume Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Incidentally, according to this thread the GUI will randomly play any .ogg tracks located in a particular folder. Although if I want to listen to music while editing I'll just play it in a separate media player application. Also, the reset is a toggle so if you press it twice it will resume the audio warning... might explain why it didn't stop.
