Deadman Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 My EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard Has a problem recognizing my SATA HD now. I am on a tight budget. MY CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor BX80557E6600 Is still ok any suggestions on a new mother board i am thinking about an ASUS this is only to keep the Desk top working and not up grade for DCS A-10C https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Krebs20 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Just to confirm. Your old motherboard uses DDR2? I almost posted some boards using DDR3. Also. Is this just for a quick fix? Or do you plan to keep the computer around for other use? Asus rocks. I've used them for years. But I feel like I pay an extra 10% for the reliability. If you want something to just get by for cheap it would open up options. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
JLZ Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 You can get PCI SATA card for least money. I drove E4300 on P5LD2 SE/C (945 chipset) but I wouldn't recommend it. Setting memory to unsupported frequencies could be very frustrating. Now, I'm on P5Q (P45) and only problem could be NB slightly inefficient fancy radiator. You can look at Asus site for alternative models of this MB. Also, you can get MB with P35 chipset (P5K series). I've never used G35 variants, so no recommendations for it. Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L and DS3R were popular for their price/quality. BTW Have you tried your HDD in other ports? Some MB have extra controller besides chipset's integrated one. HDD could also be cause of problems. Check in another (friend's) comp? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Deadman Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 i have switched sata ports an used other hd to boot from same problem all the time comp will work fine for a couple of days then not find the drive and so it will not boot i just don't wan to find out this is a 775 chip set problem after spending some cash on a new mb https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Krebs20 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 90$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131232 This should be pretty much plug and play if your using Windows Vista/7. 60$ If you only use one PCIe 2.0 slot and 2 DIMM slots, then you may want to consider and Micro ATX board. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131399 Again plug and play. Remeber this only has 2 ram slots. 8gb max(2x4) If your willing to look elsewhere than ASUS. I have 2 friends whose 775 EVGA board board died. One about 3 months ago. The other a year ago. They both had hard drive issues. My neighbor has a 775 board for about 3 years running as a media server with two 1TB drives. It sits in a hot closet behind his TV with a pile of clothes on it. I'm positive he bought the cheapest POS motherboard he could find. I don't know what brand it is. So the 775 chipset is not in question in my mind. Good luck finding a Mobo. PS. If you consider one of the Mobo is listed. Search the web for a better deal. I used Newegg as a reference. Maybe you can find a better deal. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
JLZ Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 i have switched sata ports an used other hd to boot from same problem all the time comp will work fine for a couple of days then not find the drive and so it will not boot i just don't wan to find out this is a 775 chip set problem after spending some cash on a new mb Gremlins. Worst case scenario. Once it works, other it doesn't :( Best practice is to choose few models and google it together with word "problems". Every model have or had some. Say, P5Q had problems with memory modules. BIOS revisions corrected it. With P5LD2 my SATA HDD wouldn't be recognized if I overclocked above certain FSB. You'll never know. For Asus, you can go to their support site. Forums are uncensored and you can get a clue if problems are solvable or not for you. Check SATA cable for loose connection or even better change it. You should get at least 2 with MoBo. BTW 775 is socket. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Deadman Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 thanks but I have tried everything you saying all ready the question is for a reference on a new motherboard that is 775 socket thanks https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Deadman Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 thanks Krebs I am looking at the asus board https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Pilotasso Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 have you tried swithcing the MOBO batery? All too often people forget about it. 1 .
Deadman Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 Thank ya first thing i did the 680I has this problem I ordered the ASUS MB this morning. Thanks for all he help https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
bumfire Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 If you didnt want to upgrade your motherboard, why dont you buy a sata pci or pcie card, plug that into a free pci/pcie port and then connect your harddrives to the card, bypass your onboard sata ports entirely. That would work and save you a lump of cash on having to buy a new mobo.
Krebs20 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I would guess to avoid the hassle. Also a decent Sata pci card will cost you $35+. A new MoBo 50-90$. Its half the price but more then double the trouble shooting. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
