Hey guys, I just purchased Lock On Platinum and have been having a great time with it, however, I am experiencing a small problem with the F-15.

For some reason, sometimes I cannot lock on a target that is visible on my radar, even when there are no ECM's in the area. This is especially annoying when trying to engage targets beyond visual range and also when using TWR mode to engage multiple targets. I slew the target selector over the bogey (rectangle) and hit enter and many times nothing will happen.

Is this a known bug or am I doing something wrong?

What is the range to the target?

Tracking Range is shorter than Detection Range, so you will be able to see a target on your scope a lot further out than you might be able to actually lock (track) it.

Also, if your radar is set to wide scan and either you or the target is maneuvering, you might be trying to lock onto something that is no longer where your scope says it is, simply since it was a long time since the radar scan sweeped over it.

I tried locking the IL-78'and TU-95's at 40, 20, and 10 ranges to no avail. I would slew over the target with the selector and hit enter and the target would not be selected.

This basically meant I had to use visual modes for all my missiles and could not conduct BVR combat.

Like I said: were you or them maneuvering?

Easiest to find out what is happening if you save a track file and upload it (select "go advanced" below the quick reply box and use the paperclip icon).

No, they were pretty much coming head on to me.

And it multiplayer, I can't even find things to shoot at. How are you supposed to find and see ground targets with a radar in the A-10?

And in the F-15 I can't even see other planes yet they shoot me down with so much ease. I've watched all the training videos and know what everything on the radar means so I assume I'm using it correctly, yet I can't get any targets to show up.

The A-10 has no radar. You find your targets with Mk1 eyeball.

You are not using it correctly. If you were, you would be finding things to shoot at. Your technique may be poor, as well as your ability to predict where the targets may be and point your radar at them to see them.

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

Again, Chewie, please supply a track file. Only then can we really see what you are doing and hopefully identify something that is being done wrong.

i'm a newb to lockon in general, but with a10 in multiplayer its fairly easy finding the radar guided ground targets... One person goes to the frontline and tries to get painted by the ground targets...which gives that pilot the bearing of where the targets are on the RWR. That info can be passed to the wingman, who is hanging back a bit, and watches in that direction for a missile launch or the target on ground.

with the f15, the rectangles (prior to locking on) are indicative of where the enemy plane(s) were at a given time yes/no? So if you are slow in slewing the cursor to select the target...when you press the lock (enter) key, there is nothing there to actually lock onto anymore. the target has moved on but the radar screen hasnt updated yet i.e. you might need to press enter near where the target is on the radar (based on targets heading)

Hi Chewie, don't feel discourage if you haven't got the hang on how to perform combat proficiently yet. Everyone of us start off knowing nothing on how it works at one point in time.

About your problem, as EtherealN has said please do supply a track file of your flight where you encounter the problem so one of us here can have a look at it and try to identify the problem you are having.

As for tutorials I suggest that you also download and have a look at the ones about F-15C radar that are posted in flankertraining.com. Ironhand did a very good explanation on how the F-15C radar in LockOn works. And although they were done in Flaming Cliffs 1.12 they still apply for Flaming Cliffs 2 as far as the radar is concerned. BFM 101: Understanding Corner Speed video is also a good tutorial by the way so I recommend that you also have a look at it (not 100% sure if the power bands for the different aircrafts have changed or not for Flaming Cliffs 2 though).

It may sound silly but maybe is worth to check if your key is correctly mapped.

You know, first thing to troubleshoot an electric appliance that it's not working is to check if it is plugged in

Edit -- Apparently this problem only occurs when I create a mission in FC2, for example, the attached track file is a training mission I made.

It won't let me lock on to multiple targets using TWS mode on the F-15's radar which means I have to use my missiles visually.

First of all - stop using the rudder so much. You're flying a fighter jet. ;)

As for your problem, you are using game mode it seems. With game avionics things work quite differently. I took control of the flight as the targets started getting close and procecuted all of them in quick succession with the lock-fire-lock-fire method. Standard TWS proceedure does not apply in game mode afaik.
