GAJ52 Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I am running the following setup Extreme X9650 @3.00 Ghz with 4Mbs of ram, Win 7 Pro x64, GTX460 1GB card, Black Shark 1.0.2. I was using a Nvidia 8800GTX card with no problems Black Shark was running smooth as silk. Recently this card packed up so I bought the GTX460 1GB as a replacement (couldn't afford the 480), and installed the lastest drivers. I have now noticed BS, although I am getting 30 to 50 FPS is fairly stuttery compared to before. Also with Windows Task Manager open, of the cores 0,1,2,3 - 1 and 2 are not being used, core 0 works at 30% capacity and core 3 about 80%. Can someone please point me in the right direction to get BS running smoothly again. Thanks Glen GAJ52 Intel i7-7700K @ 4.60GHz | 32 GB Ram | Win 10 Pro 64 | GTX 1080i 11.00MB | Saitek X52 Pro
ZQuickSilverZ Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Maybee you need to update your BIOS. Also I'm pretty sure that BS is not too graphics card dependent (GPU). I think its mostly processor dependent (CPU). Anybody want to comment on this? I need, I need, I need... What about my wants? QuickSilver original. "Off with his job" Mr Burns on the Simpsons. I may be wrong but I thought 1.0.2 had core affinity built in. GAJ52 Intel i7-7700K @ 4.60GHz | 32 GB Ram | Win 10 Pro 64 | GTX 1080i 11.00MB | Saitek X52 Pro
Distiler Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Yes, and 1.0.1. but affinity doesen't mean optimized for multicore, not even multicore optimized games use 100% of cores. You should check nvidia control panel, changing the card probably changes default options. There is one to optimize multicore. Also, play in full screen. power5 Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Yeah, most Sims are not GPU bound, but CPU bound. That said, I hope they have improved their engine to utilize more cores better in DCSW. My CPU is going as fast as it can right now. Just an old e4300 at 3.4ghz. I do want to upgrade to a thuban. Looks like they are capable of 3.8ghz on air and you have 6 cores, so cool. Not sure it would help, but how about CCCleaner? Maybe a reinstall of BS as well. GAJ52 Posted August 27, 2010 Author Posted August 27, 2010 Is there a list of any settings I should apply to Nvidia's Control Panel specifically for Black Shark ? GAJ52 Intel i7-7700K @ 4.60GHz | 32 GB Ram | Win 10 Pro 64 | GTX 1080i 11.00MB | Saitek X52 Pro
Havok Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I can give you what I use for my 470, but that may or may not help. If your knowledgable about PCs, sometimes its quicker to fix than figure out why. Is it LO only or same prob in other apps/progs? Reinstall BS/FO or Windows. If you have win7 install is 30 minutes and if yuor familar with it, you know what to save and what other software you need/want. Maybe check your BIOS make sure your mobo isnt using the onboard gfx also, just your card. Some progs are better at detecting a change than others, some need reinstall.
freehand Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 GAJ52 did you resolve your problem ? because I have a similar problem I changed from 8800GTS to GTX460 and frames are Ok but a I now have stutter.
Slayer Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 My motherboard didn't properly support GTX470's and 480's. I believe there was an issue with some new ATI cards as well. I had to update to a newer BIOS. I would check for a BIOS update and check into the support forums for your motherboard manufacturer and see if other people are having similar issues. Also if you are going from an old NVIDIA card like an 8800 to a newer one you should completely uninstall the old drivers, even if you already had the latest drivers. If you don't sometimes strange things happen... The newewst Nvidia beta driver now has an option to completely clear and uninstall old drivers too...really liking it. Slayer Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 You might want to also check that your "power management" setting in your profile is set to "prefer maximum performance" instead of "adaptive" [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] System Specs Intel I7-3930K, Asrock EXTREME9, EVGA TITAN, Mushkin Chronos SSD, 16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z series 2133, TM Warthog and MFD's, Saitek Proflight Combat pedals, TrackIR 5 + TrackClip PRO, Windows 7 x64, 3-Asus VS2248H-P monitors, Thermaltake Level 10 GT, Obutto cockpit
