Ok I think I have hacked away all of the supports that are no longer needed now of a bit of filing to true things up and it will be ready for a new coat of primer and wait for the new structure to be cut.

Ya, I saw the shop. I was trying to figure out how many of each I would need to completely populate a cockpit, assuming Im making most every componant from scratch. Lynx is making full panels so Im considering subtracting what he is offering from the list of knobs I would need. I know his panels are not 1:1 though but it may be more cost effective to go this route.

Sorry I never made switch tops.i did make a switch list as far as making a list of the knobs needed for each panel i may be able to come up with some thing.for the shapeways site

Personally I think fake switch tops are a waste of money if you live in the states. There are just so many switches available on the net by the time you get the cheap switch and top pay for postage on each you have probably spent as much as the real switch on a reseller site I.E. eBay.

It weighs 8LB. Why would it need to support a 6 foot 4 inch 220 pound man ?

It is a real A-10A Warthog Main Instrument Panel. I would think it will support everything it needs to in the simulator. The corners that have been removed will be replace with 4 layers of .1875 inch aluminum plate for a .75 inch reinforced corner.May this be a Weeeee bit over built? Probably but there are existing threaded holes i will use to attach the new corners.

The way the MIP sits in the A-10A and C you would not naturally grab it getting in and out you're more likely to grab the Bow of the front windscreen.

Parts of the real MIP are an Inch thick. but it is made from beer cans.

Just a heads up modeling knobs takes quite some time. you can get some real Mil spec knobs that are correct in good shape cheaper than can be made here is one example.the INT FM VHF HF selector form the comms panel.

other item such as fake 1/4 turn connectors (Dzus ) are not cost effective.

Good looking out DM, that should help save some $ and where not applicable, new knobs to accurate spec will do :).

Pay particular attention to the end of the article with regards to the Moog G-seat. Very interesting. BTW, DM, absolutely NO ONE to my knowledge, is building a replica ACES II with built in features like the Moog G-force simulation for the small simulation market. Sounds like an untapped market to me, and one I'm hoping someone fills soon.
