I just wanted to ask as to the possibilities/complexities of adding completely new aircraft to the game. I have seen a number of new jets but the majority seem to both replace existing units in the game and also utilize an existing cockpit from another vanilla plane.

I have been modding for about 10 years on various engines, the latest being for ArmA II for which I created an F-117A Night Hawk with a fully working cockpit that could be flown %100 from the gauges/instruments which is quite un-common for the Arma series. I became frustrated with the lack of possibilities in the Arma engine (simply as it was not really created with air simulation in mind), with it lacking things such as render to texture etc.

Short story I have a decent amount of mod experience and would like to try to bring the F-117A (both the external model and also its own fully working 1p cockpit for it) over to FC2. However I can't seem to find any documentation/tools/tutorials for the Lomac engine. For example where would I find a 3d exporter/converter to create lom files etc.

Is there any collection of documentation/tools/tutorials/info on polycounts for the engine available anywhere ? Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: ok scratch (some) of that, I take it these are the only/latest tools for export ? : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=18234

Unfortunately it's a very closed sim. Most aircraft "mods" are just an external model over the (simple) avionics/cockpit of some aircraft originally in LO. You might use a different "Standard Flight Model," but options are super limited. Modding LO/FC2 is a bit of a losing battle. If you were wanting to recreate the F-117 in detail, the capability isn't there right now.

We have to hope for ED to help serious, careful modders to have a home with the DCS series.

About your last... yes, I believe those are what I use, that should be the most up to date. Documentation (in English) and tutorials are rare if they exist at all. The only tools are those max plugins. Learning to mod LO is a bit of a slow process generally full of learning by trial and error. :smilewink:

If you get the blessing of the developer, with tools... then you must not only meet their standards on the model, but also the fm/dm of the aircraft. The developer agreeing the flight model and damage model are withing their acceptance would then be good to go.. but that's only if the devoper setups such a process of 3rd party tools and acceptance as 'official'. if not it's a hack and may or maynot get the developers attention. Sometimes not even money will buy into the addons. Sometimes they just won't consider it.

Many thanks for the replies both of you guys. That's a real shame to hear, I had hoped with the mods I had seen around the net for LOMAC that the support from the developers was much stronger than it is.

It seems like a bit of a backwards race if it is necessary to get the blessing of the devs before being given access to the complete documentation or tools necessary to achieve the standards they are looking for.

Is there any documentation at all on how the flight model is calculated ? Is it based on the physical geometry of the mesh, or an independent proxy or is it calculated in a separate fashion ?

Anyway thanks again to both of you, appreciate your input.

I think the community need a clear reply from ED.

Watch, they are few years we don't have news plugin's for modding, not promised, but, i think a move in the community direction was very great for all, can we have a day something to do totally a new plane?

I think that's not an ED target, but can you send to the community a good news about modding a day?

We don't have explanation for a lot of part in 3d modelling, like pit for example.

I think a reply was very great!

Thank's in advance and sorry for my poor english

ED has not had time to address community tools.

That is the current situation.

Tetra, I suggest PMing Chizh or Yo-Yo with questions.

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
