Sorry to ask this without actually trying it first, but I am at work and planning my CH profile :) Are the secondary functions that are listed in the manual for the throttle and stick when you hold a button long as opposed to short handled by the sim itself or must they be assigned separately (one key for short function and one key for long function) in the control assignments?

Nope, it's the same keypress. The sim just checks how long you hold that button on your joystick.

Why not use the ingame button assignement ? It easier then creating a profile in CM. At least for the standard sim-functions. For the extra-fancy stuff you need CM.

I just use default key presses for the profile. If I need to reinstall, then the profile is ready to go. I can share the profile and I can create special functions like macro and other programming.

Well, programming in game is much easier : you select the function, you select which hardware, click a button on the screen, actuate the button on the stick...and voila. You can save the profile as a lua-file for back-up and sharing and just ploink it straight back in if you need to reinstall. Easy.

Just out of curiosity : what do you use macro's for ?

Nothing planned yet for A-10, bit in the past, stuff like :

Rudder toe brake sends a key for brake (w for FC)

Press pinky button as a shift key getting 2 functions per button

CH throttle mini stick sends key press

Throttle at 99% press ctrl+b to close airbrake

make a button cycle through different functions

Set joystick curves in profile

repeat a button while held down

press a button to switch between joystick or yoke for FS

Custom scripting

...And many, many more. I think the CH hotas will make toast for you in the morning with the right script

And if you ever stuck, Bob at the CH forums will help you
