Fly it. Have fun. If there's a problem, they'll take care of you.

Agreed. I wasn't sure how many people have had problems with the throttle- but when you hear about it- it tends to sound like a lot are having problems.

I ordered my Warthog HOTAS yesterday through Walmart.com. After tax & shipping, it came out to be a bit more than Amazon- but- Walmart has a 90-day return policy on most electronics- so if I have a problem, I can just return it directly to a local store.

Funny, because I haven't even purchased the DCS A-10C sim 'yet'- but I'm gathering all the tools ahead of time. I was going to buy it when beta 4 came out- but then when I read one of the developers say that they weren't really happy with the beta 4 release and hoped for a quick beta 5 by year-end, I put off buying until beta 5. At least I have the 660+ page flight manual and 200+ page GUI manual to keep me busy until then. :smartass:

I like how you think Midwest, but I would encourage you to just buy it now unless you are that strapped for cash after that warthog purchase.

A lot of us are flying now in beta 4 and although the developer mentioned he wasnt happy with a few things in beta 4, thats like me saying I'm not happy with how the 5 programmable lights arnt working on my Warthog throttle yet- a moot point when you consider how awesome everything that does work is.

Basically you've already invested $400+, just buy it already! ;)

Why not get a good quality power strip, plug the pc and monitor etc into that, and just switch of when not flying?

i am plugged into a battery backup power supply, anything on my PC goes tru it, no problems with warthog...have a powered usb hub also. tir, cam.etc goes tru it, hub is also connected to powerback up,

DCS has nothing to do with your warthog lights. TM needs to step up!!!:book: i agree, the REST is just Awesome!!!!!!!!!!! nothing will test your SKILL, memory or patience more than DCS A-10C

More like $509! But who's counting?!? :music_whistling:

I also ordered the Cougar MFD's tonight as well... TrackIR next week- along with preordering the DCS A-10C sim... and a 20" secondary widescreen monitor at the end of January to replace my 17" regular monitor- for use with Helios. Right now my main monitor is my 42" LCD TV.

I put together a PVC portable cockpit (from plans I bought from a guy on E-bay)- and did some alterations to add wings for multiple keyboards, and center stick mount. The setup is pretty cool- and I made it versatile enough for racing or flying; just unscrew one device and mount the other.

I guess you could say I go for "full immersion"- or maybe just OCD. LoL! But I just like to being prepared from the get-go, instead of having to relearn or make adjustments when you change something. If I'm going to fly an A-10 (my favorite aircraft btw), then I want the best experience I can get. :pilotfly:

I just hope my system supports it all. Right now I can pretty much fly any sim on highest setting and haven't had any problems. <crossing fingers>

I forgot that it was the same with my old X52pro. Should plug it in again and change some led colors.

Did anyone else have a "creme your jeans" moment when they first opened the Warthog HOTAS box?? :joystick: All I can say is... WOW!! First off, hearing it weighs 20 lbs doesn't mean much until you actually LIFT IT! Then when you finally get it unwrapped and feel the quality and solidity of this system- I've never seen another joystick system that compares... then again, for $500...

One of the first things I noticed was that the buttons are not as "hard to press" as some people have been saying. I am pushing the buttons and thinking- ugh- this is difficult?? Hmmmm. I mean, I'm a small guy with small hands- but I definitely don't have any problems handling this; actually, I like the fact that it doesn't feel like a "toy".

Both components were recognized by WinXP and displayed in the Windows Game Controller. Then I installed the new firmware without a problem, went back to the Game Controller section and neither of the Warthog's controllers were listed anymore. I rebooted, and found only the stick listed (mild panic attack at this moment)- so I unplugged the throttle and replugged- and then it displayed.

I then created new device profiles for both in my Xpadder game controller software, and didn't have any problems there with buttons being recognized.

The one thing I did notice- when in the Game Controller section- was that when you enter properties for the throttle- it shows all three axis as 'fully pressed'- when you move a throttle or the slider switch- it jumps to off. Weird. I also noticed that if you have the throttles pulled all the way back to "off"- it is actually depressing the 29 and 30 buttons. Only when you have the throttles in the idle position- are they actually 'off'.

Yes, the LED's are 'bright' but they do look cool- although since I don't need a night-light in my room, I'll be going with the 'unplugging before shutdown' idea.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my "unboxing" experience. Now I just need to get time to build the mount for my center stick mechanism.

Yeah definitely a holy crap moment for me too. And I'm hearing the same things as I thought - that that makes all other HOTAS seem like toys. There's just no way to describe it until you've seen it on your desk.

I had heard the same thing from previous poster reviews but it never just clicked until I opened my box. Now everything they said came back to me and I could only agree.

There are plenty of superlatives to describe it once it's no longer on your desk.;)
