power5 Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) I enjoyed the video. Cant really compare to the reality of the AC series, but good none the less. I really like how you sing to yourself. :) Ending was quite funny. joey45 Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 That was awesome mate.. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Brit_Radar_Dude Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Lockon comedy genius. Some all time classic quotes.... "You're just trying to make me shoot my wingman." "If that's a friendly, WTF is this?" "Oh crap! I chose the wrong one" "Everytime I try to manouevre to the right place, you **** off the WRONG WAY!!" "I've probably lost you now. Well....I've lost me! I'm definitely gonna freakin' die." "Eat flares, Bitch!!" "Don't crash! I wanna kill you." ....and I just love the ending! I had a rubbish day today and that had me laughing out loud. Nice to see that others struggle with dogfighting and it isn't just me. Props to you for putting it up on YouTube. Its OK to be serious, but some folks are just a bit too serious and need to lighten up - Lockon is supposed to be fun and its obvious you guys are having a laugh riot! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....

mig29 Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Yep. You can see the horrible Y translation and sometimes too much X translation. :) I assume you are not a very big fan of TrackIR. :D

RIPTIDE Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I assume you are not a very big fan of TrackIR. :D I am! (freetrack) I've been flying with 6DOF off though for a couple of weeks... I will miss the look-right-around-the-back-of-the-seat. But I won't miss any crappy off axis unwanted translation. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
104th_Cobra Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 (edited) OMFG! OK, my two cents... The Mig-29S is my plane of choice for a dogfight... I would love to see a DCS module of an improved Mig-29. What I saw in the video: - Too much blackouts; you should maintain corner speed in turns (around 700-750 km/h air velocity) because the Mig-29 will drain velocity faster than other jets when flying at a maximum AoA sustained turn; lost sight lost fight; -At WVR you are only 2D manouvering; use also the 3D, high and low yo-yo's are a good way of swapping altitude for air speed and turn as hard as we can; -Use the RWS Beryoza to know the attack direction and range; there are some good videos at flankertraining.com and youtube; -The Vertical Scan mode only have 3 degrees width, it's good for a fast lock when having bandit in sight; other way the Scan Mode is the way to go; -Validate friend or foe with radar. Any other thoughts? Anyway, good video. We all are ever learning. This is a game and was made for entertainment. Edited November 3, 2010 by Xpto 104th Cobra [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Thanks. BTW: I was always favored active marking points (IR LED in the case of freetrack) against passive markers (used in TrackIR). Edited November 3, 2010 by mig29
RIPTIDE Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I didn't know about freetrack. Now I will spend all my time and energy for the next three days on discovering freetrack. Thanks. BTW: I was always favored active marking points (IR LED in the case of freetrack) against a passive markers (used in TrackIR). I've made my own IR led assembly. I had them spare from a previous job (IR LED based yard lighter) and all the other stuff I had in my shed. I have them on hanger wire and sewed into a hat (yes, I can sew). Perfect, I'd have no problem buying the TrackIR's but it doesn't really hit that (subjective) marginal return point of better performance, than the Freetrack setup which cost Zero (had everything to hand). Better frames as advertised for TIR? Not sure I'd even notice. Wider view from the sensor on TIR? Not needed for the distance I have set up. And all the other points are largely irrelevant for me.
