I am currently using a iMac desktop with VMWare Fusion running as a virtual machine to run windows.

I am currently running Windows 7 with it. When I installed the program, everything installed properly and I get the main splash screen with the training missions, familiarization, etc. But when I go to use the program, I get an error message that says that I am trying to us a PC emulator and that I should close it down.

I think what may be happening is that I cannot get to the activation screen. A buddy of mine who has the program says that when you go to start your first mission, the activation window comes up and allows you to put in your serial number and then a hardware code is generated to finish out the registration process. It is at this time that I get the error message.

When I click on the "help" on the error dialogue box, it directs me to the various ways you can activate the software. So I am hopefully thinking that this is an activation issue rather than me trying to run a Virtual Machine with the VMWare Fusion software.

If there is anyone out there using a Mac that has had a similar problem or anyone can shed some light on this it would be much appreciated. I want to play this game! (And I don't have the cash to buy a PC after breaking the bank for the Mac!)

Thanks.

i have a MacBook dual-core 2,4 GHz and installed Windows 7 using VM Ware Fusion.

Win7 itself is slow enought on it, so i didn't try to install any software on it, especially no software that has such extreme hardware-requirements like DCS: A10. even if you get the sim activated (you can try to execute the activation-program directly, it's in the program folder), you will probably run into DirectX problems or at least experience very bad performance.

You might be better off using Bootcamp (or just a separate partition) and installing Windows on that. I'm running a 2nd gen Mac Pro with Windows 7 on it, and DCS A-10C works just fine!

When I want to switch operating systems I just hold down Option on startup, and choose either Windows or Mac from there (this is dual booting).

The other issue may be hardware in your iMac. Depending on the built-in video card/device you may have some performance problems. I've stuck a PC NVidia 9800GTX in here (512 MB VRAM), and it starts to have performance issues if I turn the settings up.

But, try using Bootcamp to install Windows 7 on a separate partition if you've got the hard drive space to spare. That's probably the best and most compatible way to do this.

Second NoJoe's comments, for any graphicically instensive video game/sim, bootcamp is the only way to go.

The protection system does prohibit use under VMware due to how it works. Afaik it might have been possible to make it work under VMware if it used drivers, but you can imagine how happy people would be about installing Ring0 drivers... ;)

Definitely use bootcamp instead. It works, and it also ensures that you get the full potential of your hardware funneled to the application even if you have to re-boot.

I run blackshark under parallels when testing cockpit code and it runs fine (albeit in a small window with the lowest graphics settings.). I have a iMac i5 with 8GB ram and a ATI 4850. I'd image DCS A-10 would be similar in nature of running but not well enough to really fly at full screen.

Bootcamp will give you MUCH better performance, but it should run under Parallels at least and probably the latest version of Fusion as well. Make sure you turn on 3d acceleration in the config of your VM!

Another vote for Bootcamp from me.

Think about the processing going on, you're using X amount of processor and RAM for OSX, X amount for Fusion, X amount for Windows, and THEN you load the sim up, which already wants a mammoth amount of power!

Bootcamp will run Windows with 100% hardware availability.
