menendezdiego Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 So I was doing some formation work with an F-15E, and I noticed the modeling is on par, if not better than the A-10C. Is this a look at things to come for the future? I'd imagine all that time spent on modeling the Strike Eagle wouldn't be spent just so we have a pretty plane to look at. Regardless if DCS plans on making the F-15E the next release, well I'll just have to hope for that. My question is, is there a way for now to make it flyable? Regards, Diego

chokko Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 (edited) one of the new frigate models is gorgeous too, can it be made flyable ? Edited November 18, 2010 by chokko [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Napa Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 one of the new frigate models is gorgeous too, can it be made flyable ? I can make it submersible with my A-10C :D Intel i7 12700k / Corsair H150i Elite Capellix / Asus TUF Z690 Wifi D4 / Corsair Dominator 32GB 3200Mhz / Corsair HW1000W / 1x Samsung SSD 970 Evo Plus 500Gb + 1 Corsair MP600 1TB / ASUS ROG Strix RTX 3080 OC V2 / Fractal Design Meshify 2 / HOTAS Warthog / TFRP Rudder / TrackIR 5 / Dell U2515h 25" Monitor 1440p
Miro Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I can make it submersible with my A-10C :D Or even flyable (Depends on used ammo) :D :pilotfly:

Making a model like that is not even breakfast compared to making a DCS model out of it. There's a LOT more to it than just whipping up a model in 3dsMax. There's a LOT more to it than just whipping up a model in 3dsMax. because of the high detailed cockpit? guys, i don't have dcs and you made me curious. how does that f-15e look? can you put a screen please? one more thing. what kind of file are aircraft in dcs, .lom as in lockon?
EtherealN Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 The cockpit is involved in the difficulty and scale of the project, yeah, but you are actually still just talking graphics, pretty much. The big deal is getting the flight model (as opposed to graphical model) in place to DCS level, modelling the hydraulics, engines, fuel systems, avionics, radars, failures, doublechecking the functionality of all of that with reality, then testing all of it to make sure it actually works, then trying to dig up all minor kinks. Basically, making the model could be seen as step one in a 500 step process. :P Here's some screenshots: http://www.simhq.com/_air13/air_456a.html The file format is the same as before, afaik. john_X Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 so is it possible to take f-15e model from dcs and insert it in fc2 to make it flyable?
EtherealN Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I would suspect that it is theoretically possible, though there might be need for different encoding or something (I'm no 3D artist so I don't know much about how that works) and I don't know if it would be possible to get it "out" in the correct way for that. I also believe that it would be a violation of the EULA (non-sanctioned modification/derivative works or something), but I'd have to re-read it to know for sure. But also, you wouldn't be getting a flyable F-15E, really. You'd get an F-15C that from the outside looks like an F-15E. Getting a "proper" F-15E transplanted into FC2 would be a lot more difficult (though doable AFAIK) - so much more that the added work of making your own F-15E model would be relatively minor, and probably even preferable to ensure that it works with your cockpit, animations, internal views, damage models and so on. I don't think one can add new slot for F-15E and above all edm models are not compatible with FC2. I have tried to add new slot of plane but failed. The only things that can be success fully added are bombs, A-S missiles and A-A heat seekers.
