HOKUM52 Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 for those who it concerns Does anyone know or have the experience to know what the optimum turn rates are for the various aircraft on FC2. i know for example the f-15's best rate of turn whilst maintaining a constant velocity is around 425 knots , however i read elsewhere its best rate of turn (as in smallest radius turn/ fastest turn in degrees per second) is around 320-60 knots. which of these speeds do i abide by in a dogfight? a combination of both? i know that performing a tight manuvere at 360 knots in the F-15 will drian your speed at a rate which the engines cannot produce enough thrust to maintain a constant V. anyway in summary can if any u ppl know the optimum turn rate and the best turn rates of the following: F-15 Su-27 Mig-29 will be appreciated :D
dooom Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 figure out what you are trying to achieve first - instantaneous turn rate to throw or pull lead or a sustained turn to out maneuver a bandit. Google instantaneous TR vs sustained TR and there are a few good resources example http://wapedia.mobi/en/Basic_fighter_maneuvers ASUS Tuf Gaming Pro x570 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @ 3.8 / XFX Radeon 6900 XT / 64 GB DDR4 3200 "This was not in the Manual I did not read", cried the Noob" - BMBM, WWIIOL
Frederf Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 From the -A manual I'm getting drag index 0 sustained rates best at 275 KIAS sea level down to 250 KIAS at 10,000' pressure altitude. Load factors are 3.0 to 2.5. Drag index 8 I see 240 KIAS sea level down to 215 KIAS at 10,000'. Load factors are 2.0 to 2.5.
GGTharos Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Sounds like maybe your smallest turn radius, because best sustained turn rates are DEFINITELY well above those speeds - in the 420-450KIAS area at low altitude, about 0.9M otherwise - for the F-15. The flanker likes slightly slower speeds, but it has to get its opponent to go slow first, too. HOKUM52 Posted November 25, 2010 Author Posted November 25, 2010 thanks but keep feedback comin if you read this thread
GGTharos Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 The best thing you can do is get yourself a -1 and learn to read the charts. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Frederf Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 My mistake. My data was for DCS:A-10C. I got lost and ended up in the Lock On forums :D
