I suppose that u cant do radio check but it would be useful if we can do that.

For those of us who aren't familiar with flying, what exactly is a "radio check"?

Radio Check:

 

1 - Identifies person joining net.

 

2 - Provides feedback to person so joining as to how his signal is transmitting (for example 5 by 5 for excellent/1 by 5 for poor etc etc).

 

3 - Enable person to tweak his settings in accordance with feedback received as above.

Now I may be wrong about this but from what I know the 5 by 5 thing is a grade for "loud and clear". in other words if you were told that you were 1 by 5 you would be extremely quiet but clear and a 5 by 1 would be loud but unreadable (broken up, staticy etc.).

OK, but should i do radio check on the ground, after (I suppose) startup. that should be right procedure, or not(?). and if I do that on the ground, call my wingy to rejoin, what he will do :).

Just do what I do in real life -- toggle the squelch to verify that the radio is powered on and receiving.
