To get Tacview to work with FC2 you need to do some editing in the Export.lua and it works just fine.

The problem is that some multiplayer servers do not like this Export.lua editing and you get

an IC failure.

I fully agree with the servers IC for stopping cheaters, but I don't think a good debreif

after a mission is cheating?

Is there nothing I can do to get Tacview-logs from these servers?

The tacview code can be altered to allow for "live" viewing. Wish we could add exemptions to the integrity check, but we can't. Best solution is to use the proper export file, fly the mission. Then when you want to see what happened you can use the export.lua with tacview enabled and replay the track.

Or we can start a serious discussion with all the server admins and ask whether we ought to try not checking export.lua for a little bit or check export.lua that allows tacview. Just to try it out.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

Hi Bill,

I fully agree with the servers IC for stopping cheaters, but I don't think a good debrief after a mission is cheating?

The problem is not reviewing ACMI's after a mission, but reviewing ACMI's during a mission. The latest version of Tacview has the ability to read ACMI recordings when your computer crashed, which older versions of Tacview were not able to do. The side effect of this new version is that it will also allow you to view ACMI's while you are still in the game. Hence, people with second monitors can check who is where flying what in near real time.

Is there nothing I can do to get Tacview-logs from these servers?
Yes there is. You can replay your track with Tacview enabled. Check this thread for how to replay tracks easily: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=53270

Also check this thread for two batch scripts that will allow you to quickly switch between a Tacview enabled and Tacview disabled configuration of export.lua: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=906191&postcount=27

My personal opinion on this matter is that the cheating that is made possible by allowing export.lua to be edited is minimal - that is, for the individual person using the cheat it can be major, but the over-all effect on us honest people is minimal.

But since there are tools that can automate the track-viewing thing, it is not so much an issue for me anymore. If something happened during an online session that I want to look at I can run that, and when doing training on a closed server we can leave it open since we trust our squaddies.

The only real unsolved issue here is people who use export.lua to drive their simpits. A simpit is a considerable advantage over what I have, but I compare it to someone having a superior monitor - added expense for greater capability. But as always, it's up to the person paying for the server what they want to do about that and how they'll weigh the different factors, and if I personally don't like it I am free to just not use their server. :P

Thanks for your quick and clarifying responses.

When there are opportunities for having "live" viewers in game, I prefer Export.lua as part of the IC.

<51>Case: I shall give this a try...

Cheers.

I stopped re-viewing tracks mainly due to fact I'd need to replay whole (example 3 hours) game, so 6 hours total - or I am wrong?

I really wish ACMI could be used as it's been used earlier.... can't that bug with real time game view in TacView be somehow eliminated? It is IMHO nonsense having to replay again game for track.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Well, since the ACMI locking also works in FC2/BS it is trivial to set up a non-standard export.lua that will record locked ACMI's. The only issue then is that all clients should install non-standard files for integrity checking.

During the 8 months that FC2 has been around so far we have seen these occasional threads where people question the integrity check, but none of them have convinced any server admins to run non-standard integrity checks. This is obviously due to the fact that it would hurt popularity.

I recall that Yoda had some ideas how to integrate and automate the integrity check where it downloaded the server package before joining, but Yoda seems to have dissappeared from FC2/BS...

What league is he in? I'll need to brush up on my uber micro.

Honestly, someone should just turn off the export.lua integrity check without telling anyone to allow sim-pits and tacview. Granted its like having a doomsday device and not telling anyone about it. But it would be interesting to notice if more in-game BS starts happening, and I don't mean the Black Shark -_-

I think he was Diamond or Platinum, last I checked, which was a couple weeks ago.

But yes, that would be an interesting experiment. :)

I have always wondered if it was possible for a server to allow multiple export files? My thought was that if a server wanted to allow a get special export file that they deemed safe, could they somehow set it up and also allow a stock install to run.

Example being. Server is set up to check export, but 3 export files can pass its ic. So a player can play with no modman. But someone with a virtual panel or whole home cockpit also has a export file that will pass? Is this possible? I know a lot of players that wouldn't play a server if they had to bother with an install for modman. By allowing multiple files than stock and modded can play together in harmony. Sorry if this is answered elsewhere.
