RSharpe Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Today was an interesting day. My TM Warthog HOTAS and my two Dell U2410 monitors arrived by mail today and I just finished getting myself set up. Now, all I have to do is spend many many hours trying to figure out how everything works! I haven't even had a chance to set up Eyefinity properly yet.
Whippler Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 looks nice, why not put the LG monitor in the middle?.. for symmetrical reasons... get a bigger table, looks really crowded there. all the wiring looks even worse than on my setup.. whit only one monitor tough. screen sizes and ress?

The Dell monitors are IPS monitors and are much nicer than the LG, which is MVA. When I'm computing most of the time I prefer using the Dells. Anyhow, the wiring is a bloody mess down there, but I don't spend much time under my desk looking at the wires. The monitors are all 24" 1920x1200. I'm surprised that this 5850 can run DCS ok for now. I'll upgrade to a more powerful card(s) next year once the new generation of cards come out from Nvidia and AMD.

Sapphire ATI 5850. A bit underpowered, but I'm going to stick with it until I see what new cards become available early next year. No point in upgrading now before I know what my choices can be in just a few months. I met get a triple monitor stand later. 2. Intel Core i7 @ 4.0 ghz, 6 GB triple channel DDR3 RAM at 1600 mhz, Gigabyte X58A-UD3R, Sapphire ATI 5850, 3 x 24" 1920x1200 monitors (1 LG 246WP, 2 Dell U2410), TM Warthog HOTAS, Track IR4, Logitech G35 headset.
Cali Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 What kind of FPS do you get in DCS-10 and FC2 if you play it? Also what settings do you have? i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
xWARGOx Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I have a Sapphire 5850 too. No issues with running it in FC2, BS, or A10c. All max settings.
Loz Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Nice setup similar to mine. I would recommend that you use the Bezel Management in the Catalsyst setup, then you will get a seamless blend between the different monitors without the cockpit frame repeating itself over the join. i9 9900x at 5.1 Ghz // ASUS ROG Maximus XI Formula EK Bloc // 64Gb Corsair Vengence 3600Mhz DDR4 Ram // Gigabyte Aorus 3090 Watercooled block//Samsung SM951 M2 x4 SSD // Windows 10 64 Bit //48inch LG48 @ 3840x2160 120Hz//Asus ROG Swift PG35VQ 3440 x 14440 144Hz // TM Warthog HOTAS (Ser. I haven't been able to experiment with tweaking the settings yet or take FPS readings, but I seem to be getting OK framerates with 3 screens running at low settings, except for textures on high. I was running on high with only 1 screen and the experience seemed to be similar. Hopefully, with when the game is finally optimized for performance, things will improve some. I am settled on a video card upgrade next spring anyhow. Loz, does is there a video performance overhead when using bezel management? I just did this quick and dirty setup last night as both new monitors and the HOTAS arrived yesterday afternoon.

I wouldn't think that it would be noticeable as you are only increasing the horizontal resolution from 5760 to approx 6052 (in my case but that number depends on how you set up the bezel compensation in the CCC) Give it a go, as it's pretty easy to set up. i9 9900x at 5.1 Ghz // ASUS ROG Maximus XI Formula EK Bloc // 64Gb Corsair Vengence 3600Mhz DDR4 Ram // Gigabyte Aorus 3090 Watercooled block//Samsung SM951 M2 x4 SSD // Windows 10 64 Bit //48inch LG48 @ 3840x2160 120Hz//Asus ROG Swift PG35VQ 3440 x 14440 144Hz // TM Warthog HOTAS (Ser. Slammin Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Have you though about setting the monitors in portrait configuration? I think that's what I would do with 3 24" monitors. Loz Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 If this was predominately an Air to Air sim, then I can see that the greater vertical expanse offered by the monitors in Portrait would be an advantage, but for a "mud mover" I personally think that the wider view of landscape is better. i9 9900x at 5.1 Ghz // ASUS ROG Maximus XI Formula EK Bloc // 64Gb Corsair Vengence 3600Mhz DDR4 Ram // Gigabyte Aorus 3090 Watercooled block//Samsung SM951 M2 x4 SSD // Windows 10 64 Bit //48inch LG48 @ 3840x2160 120Hz//Asus ROG Swift PG35VQ 3440 x 14440 144Hz // TM Warthog HOTAS (Ser. RSharpe Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 I gave the portrait configuration a try, but ATI/AMD's drivers made it very difficult to get all 3 monitors to be portrait at the same time. It just didn't work out very well and I went back to landscape mode. It gives me a better field of view this way anyhow. I'm regretting having gone with ATI this round. I'm pretty sure I'm going to upgrade to Nvidia cards in the new year, and I'll use this ATI card for my HTPC.
topdog Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 (edited) If you had gone NVidia though, you'd need 2 cards to have outputs to drive 3 monitors and be without Eyefinity (which, as much as I'm generally anti-ATI, has seemed to be a good thing). Can be done, but all in all it seems to me that ATI (I mean AMD..) has an edge on the multi-monitor setups currently. Yes, that's the plan since there aren't really any single card solutions that quite do it for 3 monitor gaming anyhow... Besides, I don't only play sims. Eyefinity is ok, but Crossfire is not. ATI doesn't seem to have enough horsepower to really make 3 monitor gaming comfortable.
