S77th-GOYA Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Sometimes, during a multiplayer session, if another player has hi-res skins installed, looking at them brings my FPS to a crawl. How does this happen?
KuostA Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 hmm..Interesting that you should bring this up. I experience something like this, not sure if its what you're talking about because It can happen in single player for me as well. Sometimes when I view a high res skin (in either the Missioin Editor Payload section, or In-game), There seems to be some bug, and the FPS drops down to litterally nothing. It is a complete slideshow. Even so, All i have to do is F2 to the next plane, or simply get to any camera angle where the skin isnt rendered or insight, and the FPS jumps right back up. Very strange..Any thoughts?
SuperKungFu Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Yea same here...i think maybe some of the really hi-res skins (like those 24 MB ones) are not installed as CDDS file. some skins are not loman compatible, and have to be manually installed. If I drop it directly to Bazar/TempTextures folder, is that considered as being installed as a CDDS file? Because I am feeling a significant fps drop after I installed the new skin. Maybe it’s just my crappy computer but on default skin I don’t experience this. So if anyone know how to convert it to CDDS files please speak up. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
KuostA Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 See, superkungfu, you're getting a frame rate drop with high res skins purely because of your particular system, I guess it isnt much of a good setup. The frame rate drop happens every single time for you. With us, or I guess Me, I have used the particular skin for ages without the slightest of a FPS drop, yet Once, every so often, I would get the problem and symptoms as described in my above reply. I would realize the bug was in affect, and all I would have to do to cure it was close the game and get back in, and the skin worked perfectly again.
