Hello all,

Well I said I would let you know how this turned out for me and here it is.

I recently had 2 ATI HD4850 In crossfire. I just upgraded to a EVGA SC GTX 570.

With this upgrade it doubled my FPS. I was able to turn everything up to high and sitting at sukhumi or batumi I have over 40FPS on the ramp. I was before getting only 18 - 25 with my crossfire setup. Now I tried Defend Camp Yankee and the same thing. It doubled my FPS from my crossfire set up I was running. Even with 4 A10's on the ramp it was smooth. I did not complete the mission all the way through I just started the plane up took off and flew to the engagement point. I am going to try out the complete mission tonight along with some others.

With all my settings on high except for mirrors are off and water is on medium. I am getting 35 - 45fps on the ramp. I have haze on and running 1920 x 1080 desktop rez. 1080p HDMI.

Now I also like to say that this card runs really cool as well. It has not gotten over 50c with the fan at 40%. That was with a full load running for 2 hours.

I will do more test to try this out more. But I just wanted to let you all know if you are running a older ATI set up as I did and was thinking of a upgrade I would deffinately recommend this card. It is huge though so you need to have allot of room in the case for it. Also minnimum of 38a on a 12v rail.

The card was around $370.00US but for the price I feel you are getting a steal for this card. Imagine running 2 in SLI. HEHEHE.

Well thanks for letting me rant.

Nice, and yeah I'm feeling maaaybe a little jealous :D. I only have a GTX 460 OC on the way next week to replace my aging 8800 GTX, but I'm encouraged at the potential boost I may get from that from your own upgrade comparison.

I wasn't quite yet ready to go for a full PC overhaul (because for what I want to do, it'll entail building a new machine and retiring this one to secondary purposes,) and for now just wanted DX11 capable hardware as much as anything else.

Well I was thinking of buying a 460...but I got some good deals on other parts and my budget increased. Things like this keep selling the 570 to me.

How large is this card, exactly? I always find it hard to find dimensions of graphics cards online, and I hope it'll fit my case.

this is about accurate with the card I have as well. To find out more about the card I got it is the EVGA Superclocked GTX 570.

It is a long card and it take up to slots.

By the way, your mobo supports PCI-e 2.0? Mine doesn't so I think I'm pushing my luck on saturating bandwidth anyway for this box (nvidia 680 sli mobo). At least, I think that's the case. Doesn't seem to be an easy question to find a hard answer for.

How 'bout a bit more detail for a full comparison? Among the VTB we've been using the "sitting at the end of the runway" after unpausing, head in normal flight position (it starts out at more like 40fps, then decreases as the zoom pulls back) in the takeoff training mission as a discussion point.

With everything truly maxed out...hit the 'high' button, 1900x1200, "1024 every frame" cockpit, 16xQ MSAA, full screen, HDR, TSAA all on....I get 28 on my 460. A bit of reduction in the eye candy is almost not visible and gets me up to 33-34 at that same point...and that spot is lower fps than almost anything I see in flight. I usually peg it out at 60 (which I set as maxfps)

If I create a mission with a "takeoff from ramp" at batumi, then when it puts me in the pit I'm at 46-47fps prior to engine start.

I do the same for my benchmarking. My plane is facing the ocean on ramp at Batumi. I just start mission and hit 5 on numpad and check FPS.

Sorry guys. Just got back and have one more quick trip I have to do in a moment. (pick up daughter) Once I get home I will do what was suggested and let you know the results.

Teej. We might have a little different results as your processer is better then mine. I do have 8gig of ram of DDR2 ram. Corsair XMS2 pc6400.

Toddog. The motherboard I have is the Asus P5N-D. not board of choice but it was already in my Alienware. It does have PCI-E 2.0 x16.

My processer is a Intel Q9400 2.66 now overclocked to 3.2ghz.

But like I said. I will be back in a few and try out simular bench for you guys and let you know what I get. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

I know your results will be different. I'm intrigued by where the bottlenecks actually exist. You can have a system where neither the video nor CPU appear to be limits (in that neither approaches 100% use except at spikes)...but you gain frames by improving either one. Heh.

Edit: I take it back. At worst case spots, I am GPU limited. GPU util pegs when I'm sitting on the runway at Batumi.

Ok i am sitting waiting for my daughter. I love my iPhone. I also maxed out black shark along with fsx. Man this card just made a huge difference in performance. I am impressed. I was actually not expecting that big of a jump as to what I got. I think even a SSD HD. Would help.

Best upgrade I did so far by far though. At least for DCS.

Well, Atomic, I think I'll possibly go for the same GTX 570 as you. Seems to be a good idea. Thanks for your link to the dimensions of the card. My case will take that with room to spare (according to the manual) It's now snowing here again, so it doesn't look like my MB, PSU, monitor and Processor will arrive this year! Might as well add GPU to the big list of stuff I've bought but don't have next week.

I think you will enjoy this card. I am. I got mine from Newegg as the price was good. The shipping was great. It came in 2 boxes with all the packing peanuts. They packed it well. If you order it now you get 3dmark 11 pro free. Full version. Plus Lifetime warrenty and upgrade program. HEHEHE.

Like I stated yesterday. This one card is twice as fast as my HD4850 crossfire set up I was running. Noticed allot of things already.

Ok Teej: I did the benchmark that you suggested.

I cranked everything up to max. (was not sure about bushes though). I can not get 1900 x 1200 res. I have a acer monitor that is 23", So I did 1920 x 1080. at 1080p. 60h.

I fired up the training mission Take off and Navigation. The results.

Once the game started I touched nothing. Started the frame counter and then unpaused the mission. From the time I unpaused the mission till the view zoomed back I was getting 30fps. Once the view was all the way back it was at 25fps. Still touching nothing I waited and watched for spikes and there was none. It stayed right there. So before I decided to close the mission I decided to move head around and here is the best part. The head panning did not seem like it was getting 25fps it seemed faster. So I ran the test again and again to veryfy and it was the same everytime.

So I decided to tweak the settings a little to see what I could get with good FPS and Good options checked. Here is the results.

First the options.

Textures & Scenes on HIGH. Vis range and water on Medium. Civ Traffic on low and Heat blurr is on. I got the MSAA on 8Q and the Fullscreen and HDR along with bushes to about 80%.

I fired up smerch hunt. After view zoom back in cockpit and with plane taxing in front of my I was getting 55FPS as I was starting the plane. Through this entire mission with TGP on and using mavs noticed no real big drop in FPS. I stayed around 55 - 65 FPS the entire mission. From ramp to ramp. LOL. The thing I noticed about this card is that it is alot more stable then my others.

I will try some other missions tonight. Some more that have allot going on. My rig is not the most powerfull out there so I do not expect to run everything on max anyways. I like where I got my options set now to the new card. It is not so much the FPS that matter to me its how smooth the game feels when in a battle. No stutters and so on. I like to have some eye candy and great time gound pounding. LOL.

Take care guys.

Not that it probably matters much but it also jumped my Windows Experiance Score up.

Widows Graphics is now 7.7

Gaming Graphics is now 7.7

Was at 7.3 and 7.3 with my Crossfire set up.

Great. That helps give some general data for folks!

That pretty much clinches it that the game is _primarily_ GPU bound, at least at this stage of beta. In fact, I think it's likely the video memory holding it back. Mine generally maxes out the video memory.

With the settings you describe on the ramp in smerch, I see my in game counter flip between 48&53 fps, with FRAPS reporting a solid 50 before the plane taxis past. I didn't stay long enough for the plane on the first test. I then boosted my 460 up (from the stock ~ 675/1350/1600) to 800/1600/2000. Now I saw it locked in at 60fps (again, I set it to not go higher) before the A-10 goes past, and it drops to 50 as he rolls across my view.

Now...my question...am I doing something wrong? With HDR & TSAA on it looks like I'm sitting in a mild fog bank. Much lower contrast on everything, in and out of the pit.

i dont think so as i see the same thing. That was the first thing I noticed as well with the new card. The HDR is kind of foggy. LOL. But At least I can have it on now. I was not able to have it on with my crossfire. It put my system to a crall of 15fps with the ATI HD4850 in crossfire. If I disabled the crossfire would let me run at 22 - 28fps with the HDR on. LOL. And that was with everything set to med or low. So as you can tell this new card is solid. It is factory overclocked and I know there is room to bump it up more but I can wait for that.

Also, for perspective, my i7 overclocked to 4.0 scores 7.7 on the CPU portion. RAM maxes it out at 7.9.

I also feel the reason for the huge increase of performance with my upgrade was because the motherboard has the 750i chipset and for some odd reason alienware has the crossfire setup instead of a sli set up on the gpus. But I could be wrong as this board is not the greatest out there as it has a big vdroop. But it works for me for now. I am going to build a new pc probably in the next 2 years. So this will last me until then.

I am happy as long as I can fly my DCS sims. HHEHEHEHE. No new pc needed yet. On my next build I might try and get another one these cards and run them in SLI.

Also on another note about the new video card. I was running the monitor on the card temps. Running A10 for about 1 hour with my fan settings on the card to auto. that is around 40% the card never got hotter then 58c.

My ATI HD4850's if I left the fan speed to auto ran at 80c. After ramping the fans up to 70% the cards then idled at 45c then with full load got up to 80c.

I must say that this might have been part of the biggest difference along with noice. This card is really quit to the old set up.

for some reason I can not get my system to overclock anymore. Everytime I touch the ram settings or my FSB the comptuer wont boot. But that because the board I have is not really meant to overlock. I only get a 7.3 on my cpu and a 7.3 on ram and I have 8gi Corsair XMS2 DDR2 pc6400 at 800mhz. That kind of bothers me becuase I feel it should be higher.

Upgraded my GTX280 to a new Zotac GTX 570. Windows Exp score is now 7.9 for both Windows Graphics and Gaming Graphics.

Similar experiance to you guys now - I can max everything out but water and the game runs super-smooth. I'll post some FPS results later as I haven't actually looked at them yet, but my GTX 280 would choke as soon as I turned on HDR before. I don't even notice a drop in frames now when I turn it on.

I agree with HDR on, everything looks kinda washed out/grayish. Not sure if this will be tweaked in the future or not...

Well I guess what drove me to Evga is there is a lifetime warranty where most others don't have. This card I got is still a reference card but factory overclocked. They also have a upgrade program as well. But to answer your question I think the gpu is the same on all brands. Still a Nvidia chipset.
