Raz_Specter Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Hi Guys and Gals, I was wondering if we could ask ED (by the power of the people) if they would be willing to get a printed manual done A5 leather bound (like the one for Lock-On that was done by another company which i bought) I would be willing to spot the cash for something that I could take with me anywhere and learn from without having to have a PC. I know you can print off the PDF but personally I would like something a little better. Who would be willing to pay the price for a printed A5 copy of the manual? thanks Mithandra Custom built W10 Pro 64Bit, Intel Core i9 9900k, Asus ROG Maximus Code XI Z390, 64GB DDR4 3200 RGB, Samsung 1TB NVme M.2 Drive, Gigabyte AORUS 2080TI, 40" Iiyama Display. Spectre_USA Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 The LOMAC manual was done by a group called Digital Aspirin, and is excellent. The gentleman that spear-headed the product sadly passed on shortly after release. (Nick Cole, IIRC?) I would love to see one of that caliber printed out. I, personally, like small file electronically, for search purposes, but a volume for toting around is much preferred when hundreds of pages. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] A tale of 2 hogs
Comrade Vodka Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Well I would for one. There is no substitute for a good bound printed copy of the Manual. Priceless for continued learning wherever you are. Good suggestion 'mithandra'.......my printed copy of the Black Shark manual was well worn, but was like my best friend for almost a year........so sad! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] :pilotfly:
skypirate Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Between buying 10 cartridges for my ink hungry HP + giant PITA until I get it all sorted out and buying the printed manual... Hmmm$$?? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Regards!

rexehuk Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 If I were to consider doing this... what are the maximum waiting times you guys would be happy with for orders? For answers sake I'm based in the UK and orders would be most like couriered. Also, do people want them in COLOUR or black/white?

rexehuk Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 (edited) A4 or A5? 2 weeks sounds reasonable, depending on how many orders are placed obviously... I am only one man! In terms of binding what would people want... 4 hole ring binding or book bound (extra cost obviously) or even spiral binding? Hardback or Paperback? Copies would be done on professional printers, not some home ink jet. An idea of price range people expect would also be good... be advised colour printing no matter how it's done always carries a significant premium. This is only a "plan" until I gauge how many people there are here who want such a product. Otherwise the outlay in my part is too much of a risk. Edited December 29, 2010 by rexehuk
frosto Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I remember a time, when it was USUAL to get a printed Handbook with the game. The Handbook for a F-16 Sim for the Amiga had 160 pg. DCS A-10 is double that size, but 100$ extra for a Handbook is way too much. If you talking about something special, leather and so on, then that price seems alright. But at first stage i need only a handbook, ring binding is ok. Not everybody can afford that much money for a Handbook.
Raz_Specter Posted December 29, 2010 Author Posted December 29, 2010 Definatly Colour A5 Spiral Bound with hard Cover if possible thanks Mithandra Custom built W10 Pro 64Bit, Intel Core i9 9900k, Asus ROG Maximus Code XI Z390, 64GB DDR4 3200 RGB, Samsung 1TB NVme M.2 Drive, Gigabyte AORUS 2080TI, 40" Iiyama Display. Kevlon Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 needs to be printed as a5, since that is the size of the pdf. nothing fancy for me, as long as it is printed in high quality. about 50 $ is a good price I think.. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

DocSigma Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I tried the kindos route but the cost was way more than i expected. I just printed the entire thing out on the color laser at my work, purchased 3 very large ring binders with inserts and just created my own. rexehuk Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I can get a run of 1000 for cheap... the moment you want to do "20" or "30" the price increases by a few thousand %. I still have a few leads to follow up, if they come through I might get a few printed and set something up. Obviously a 1000 manuals is a huge outlay and will not be a viable option for me in terms of risk, so I'll have to wait and see what comes up.
Napa Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) Hi Guys and Gals, I was wondering if we could ask ED (by the power of the people) if they would be willing to get a printed manual done A5 leather bound (like the one for Lock-On that was done by another company which i bought) I would be willing to spot the cash for something that I could take with me anywhere and learn from without having to have a PC. Although what's the point asking for ED to do it if you can do it yourself. Its not gonna cost you less or even take less time if ED does the job. As for an A5 size, any digital printer house will be able to do it even if you give them a PDF with A4 dimensions. Raz_Specter Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 and also the finish would be no were near as good using a home system. Even if ED charged another 20 GBP for the game and included a manual which was a high quality printed A5 bound manual that would definatly be worth it for me. I think its just the initial outlay and the cost of just getting a few done. were as they might have sold 10,000 pre-order's so it would be cheaper for them to get it done in that volume if people were interested. Hopefully something will happen either from ED or from the scene. thanks Mithandra Custom built W10 Pro 64Bit, Intel Core i9 9900k, Asus ROG Maximus Code XI Z390, 64GB DDR4 3200 RGB, Samsung 1TB NVme M.2 Drive, Gigabyte AORUS 2080TI, 40" Iiyama Display. twobells Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 46 pound sterling per manual, minimum order 25 units. Subsequently we need more than 200 units to bring the single unit cost down. Midwestboi Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I just printed out the Beta 4 manual in black & white on my laser printer. I selected "fit to printable area" in Adobe Acrobat so it was on a full 8.5" x 11" sheet- printed on both sides- then 3-ring punched it and put in a 2.5" binder. I also printed the GUI manual in black & white but did the quick-start manual in color- then put those in a 1.5" 3-ring binder. The color is nice- but way too much $$ on an inkjet (I also did the binder covers in color as well). Even for black & white, with my laser printer set to 600 dpi it printed the images very well- and there was no noticeable distortion from increasing the size to fit the page.
