I just dowloaded the A10 and I am brand new to this forum community - looking forward to flying this aircraft.

I have the Saitek X65F HOTAS that I will use for DCS A10, currently I use it in the MS FSX and I primarily set things up with the FSUIPC utility, as such I have not needed to install any X65F drivers or X65F configuration utility.

DCS A10 sees my controllers in the Controls section, however I don't know how to reassign axis' to controllers - for example assigning the CH Rudder pedals to the DCS rudders. If there are any instructions for this in the game I've missed it.

Can someone please explain the best way to configure the X65F? And, will I need to install the X65F drivers / utility software?

Thanks

John

Hmm, how did you set your HOTAS up in FSX then? It's basically just the same.

- In the GUI, go Options

- Then select the Controls tab

- Below the Controls tab, you see a drop downmenu, initialy set to "All"

- Set this Axis-Commands

- Highlight the function you want to assign to the CH Rudder Pedals (in your case you should go for "Rudder"

- Press the "Clear" button down below to remove the current assignment (if there is any).

- Press the "Add" button down below and then either select the axis you want to assign to the rudder through the provided drop-down menu or move the axis, in your case the CH Rudder Pedals. It will detect the axis movement and assign it.

Utility software: You can get by with assigning the A-10C functions directly onto the buttons/switches of your HOTAS or you can use the X-65 software to write a stick profile instead. That last option will give you much more control over what your HOTAS will do...

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Thanks for your help. I found the ADD button - I should be able to work it out from there. I'll eventually try the Saitek utility software to see what additional control I can get with the HOTAS.

FYI: In FSX (and FS2004) I have the controllers disabled on the sim's controller and assign and configure contollers and axis' from FSUIPC. FSUIPC works much better and alows extreme tweaking of the contollers. I don't fly any FS aircraft without it - its one of the best FS utilities there is.

I also use the X-65 and so far I have reframed from using the software. I have everything on the sticks I need including the mic switches. The options menu is pretty good to assign the buttons and axis. Good luck with it as it took several tries to get a setup that flowed.

What I'm finding is that the assignment window lists all axis for all controllers. In other words it isn't broken up by conroller - like Controller 0- slider 1, controller 1-button 3. So it is a bit confusing. Moving the contoller axis brings up the assignment - like JoyX, however I see that JoyX on more than one conroller. Like for Rudder and Joystick.

The ways DCS separates controllers( and mouse/keyboard/trackir/etc) is by columns, look at the top and you will find a column for keyboard/mouse/"joy 1"/"joy 2"/etc. Buttons and axis are only detected when you press then if you selected the correct column.

You will need the drivers for the X65F so all buttons can be detected, the software("Profile Editor") is not that much necessary.

At the top of mine it has saitek x65 and saitek rudder peddles as I only have those 2 devices. I hope that helps.

Each controller can have his own JoyX if it has an X-axis (same for the other axis).

Example: The throttle of your X65F will probably be JoyZ, the rudder axis of the CH Pedals will also be JoyZ. Since they are separate controllers, it's no problem, they won't interact (if i'm correct, the toebrakes on the CH pedals will have JoyY and JoyX but i have to check that to be 100% sure).
