CarneyUK Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I am looking at organising a day out (visit) for the guy's at my work. We are hoping to visit an airfield in the UK to have a look at A10's. I have tried looking on the internet for Airbases (UK or American) in the UK that may have A10's still stationed there, but most I have found i.e. RAF Bentwaters are now shutdown. At the moment we are looking at Mildenhall, does anybody know where there are other stations in the UK that may still have A10's based there preferably in the South. Eddie Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 The only operational USAFE bases in the UK with active airfields and Lakenheath and Mildenhall. To my knowledge there are no A-10's based in the UK on a permanent basis.

ED Team JimMack Posted February 16, 2011 ED Team Posted February 16, 2011 Gutted!! May have to wait for an airshow....or might even see if the Boss will let me go to the States  I doubt it! The only base of A10Cs is in Germany. In 2009 two were shown in a static display at RIAT Fairford. You might like to check RIAT 2011 to see if they will be present. I talked to the pilots and they were very complimentary about their training on our DTS:A10c! Having problems? brewber19 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 (edited) No A10s in the UK. RAF Mildenhall currently stations KC135s and E3s. RAF Lakenheath currently stations F15Cs. The only time I have seen an A10 in the UK, since Bentwaters closed in the early 90s, is at the RIAT airshow at Fairford. CarneyUK Posted February 17, 2011 Author Posted February 17, 2011 The only time I have seen an A10 in the UK, since Bentwaters closed in the early 90s, is at the RIAT airshow at Fairford. I saw one at Middle Wallop a couple of years ago. First time I have ever seen one in the flesh (only in the air.) It looked like it was practicing for an airshow and I was absolutely amazed at how the thing stayed in the air. It seemed to go against the laws of physics and I thought the pilot was gonna stall out any minute!! "The sky is not the limit.....it's my playground!!" @paraglidecass

Will have to hope they have some at some airshows.....Mildenhall will not happen again so gonna look at going to the RNAS Yeolvilton Int Airshow in July!
