Hi again!

I created a mission and flew it 3 times. The 2nd and 3rd time weren't too good anymore.

Here my observations:

When I change the steerpoint with DMS fwd and aft while HUD is SOI, the corresponding steerpoint is already SPI, marked with the wedding cake symbol in the TAD. Same with the markpoints on my Maverick run. I change them, and SPI changes automatically, no need to hold TMS aft.

And the other thing is, that when I designate the targets as markpoints from the distance (ca 10 miles, NOT moving targets!) and I switch between them, everything is spot on.

Thereafter I make another turn to gain some height, and when I get into my final attack heading (may be in a slightly different angle as when marking the targets), the markpoints are all slightly off.

Is that normal?

Thanks Mugenjin, I almost made an ass of myself by preparing a long post about laser rangeing until I saw your post.

To summarise Mugenjins link : It's a bug

Heres a great video on laser ranging anyway:

12 mins long, but very good.

Good to know that works mate! And that makes sense too. Normally the Steerpoint is already the SPI, so changing to Mark points and they already being SPI is very good. Must makes multiple Mavericks runs easier.

Did you watch ExcessiveHeadspace video on TGP use? That explains what happens. Or, if you are using laser to designate targets and still having problems with target offset, check if your laser is with Lacth On. Otherwise, you only have laser if you maintain NWS pressed.

If still having problems, then must be a bug on Beta 4.

This is an amazing sim! 'Nuff said!:pilotfly:

Well you don't necessarily NEED to use the laser. I'm just a lazy bastard ^^

From the thread I linked earlier to:

The video is accurate technically speaking, however there is no laser "range finder" in the LDP it has only the one laser used to guide weapons, it can however also provide range.

If you are dealing with the problem Headspace illustrates in his first diagram, then yes laser use could give a more accurate range that the pod would provide without it. However, as long as you keep this limitation and the method the pod uses to obtain a range in the back of your mind and adjust the target point in the pod you should never need the laser. If you simply adjust the pod point of aim to the base of the target rather than the top/side/front/baqck etc, the pod will be centred on the correct coordinates. In the numerous hours I've spent with A-10C so far I have never once used the laser designator for ranging (I don't even arm it unless I'm about to drop and LGB) and I have never had a JDAM/WCMD miss it's target due to incorrect coordinates.

If you're trying to generate multiple mark points which you intend to drop JDAM/WCMD on from range then a margin of error is to be expected, after all this is not the way JDAM/WCMD are really meant to be employed, it's more of a workaround to enable the A-10C to use JDAM in a manner similar to the pre-briefed mode available to other aircraft. In the CAS environment you really shouldn't be dropping weapons blindly on to grid coordinates without confirming you have the correct target all the way up to letting the weapon off the rack.

Of course at the end of the day it's a video game, not real life, so if using the laser to provide range works for you and fits in with how you like to fly and fight the aircraft then carry on doing it. After all, at the moment the AI ground vehicles don't have any laser warning systems as in real life so you won't be alerting them to your presence. Or at least not yet anyway. wink.gif

So area instead of point track to target the base of stuff.

Since I never used laser for designating yet, I will try out to mark the base of the target with area mode. And yes, RodBorza, it was the video made by ExcessiveHeadspace on YouTube that I was referring to when I first tried a multiple target designation with the TGP.
