JCook Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I've been shooting at ground targets and I notice when using the default circular reticle there is sqare inside the circle that blocks my view of the target. Its hard to explain but the square is opaque its just preventing me from putting the pipper on the target. I keep having to pull off the target to see where I am and then quickly realign and guess where the target is in the reticle.
nomdeplume Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Strange... can you take a screenshot? Just press the PrtScn button near the pause key, it'll place the screenshot in the "Screenshots" directory under where you've installed the game. Also post video card & driver information. The area inside the reticule should be cleared of all other HUD symbology so you can clearly see what you're putting the reticle over. It sounds like maybe whatever is supposed to make that area transparent is for some reason opaque on your system.
Quirkitized Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Use CCIP with guns if you still want to see your target box with crosshairs. Not gunmode with ccip reticule but ccip mode. You will need to change an option in the HUD I forgot what this is but I am sure somebody will answer it real soon. I've been waiting for beta 6 so I haven't played in awhile, nearly forgot everything already =(
todd022 Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 nah, i'm right there with you Jcook. When my target/mark from TGP (in hud) has the gun reticle overlaying it, the TGP mark gets blocked out by reticle so I can't see exactly where to put the "pipper". been crutching with labels because of it. EtherealN Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 JCook, if you can't explain it, surely you can press "print screen" and show a picture? ;) Anyways, one way to do it is t ouse references - depending on the surroundings of the target you might not have to actually aim for the target or even see it to hit. For example, aim ~5 meter left of that field edge, that kind of thing. Always use as obvious references as possible. S77th-konkussion Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I've encountered this several times. I've read the threads, and I will try the settings described- but I must say.. How ridiculously counterintuitive could this get? The idea that you cannot SPI something with the TGP, switch to guns, and smoke it strikes me as.... odd. I'd assume that you're not supposed to just shoot the SPI marker wherever it is, but additionally need other means of identifying the target when preparing to fire the gun. With the mk1 eyeball or other sort of reference (landscape w/e).
Nate--IRL-- Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 This is the Gunsight occlusion square. It is present to allow the pilot to see the actual target without HUD Symbology getting in the way. Same as the real thing. If you think you need to see the SPI marker, you are too far away from the target or you could zoom in on the HUD. It's unnerving because I think we are all too accustomed to ED's past visibility compromises- i.e. little black dots coming into view.. Nate--IRL-- Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Ahh, I see what you mean. There is a bug with the HUD that prevents shadows being drawn. So if a unit was casting a shadow, it does not do this in the HUD FOV. This does make targets harder to spot. StrongHarm Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Try: IFCC Test > scroll down to DISPLAY OPTIONS > GUN CROSS OVERLAP to NO Here's a good example of a textbook gun run. I'll bet Wags learned this in the sims with the real Hawg drivers, as this is what they look like from the ground when running in. Notice that he doesn't have the target set as SPI. He comes on to the target low, comparing the target location to landmarks (mountains) to his right. When he's aligned he watches the target while doing a pop up maneuver to align the target and fire before it can get a good enough firing solution to hit him first. It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm
