Mozart Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Hi. I found the attached image at a Navy Website with no other reference to what it is and where. Has anyone ever tried projecting on such an "inside box" screen setup? I think, projecting the "up" view would be useful in a fighter sim, because in a dogfight the plane you're chasing is always leaving the forward view towards the up view. Haven't tried it though, am interested in your opinions! Yours, Mozart.
BHawthorne Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 (edited) If I recongose it right, that picture is a multi-face geodesic dome that the projection is on is actually rear projection -- 1 projector per face. It's not a box, but a dome (and more than 4 faces)... Consumer projectors have some pretty demanding thermal characteristics. They don't like to be mounted or turned outside of their engineered specs. Pointed up/down or rotated left/right projectors can take thermal damage. At the very least, you could instantly burn out a $200 projector lamp. If you do plan on projecting at odd angles, use mirrors. Edited February 22, 2011 by BHawthorne
PeterP Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Hello Mozart! If you have the projectors and the room : it's the way to go! and think I fully explained what to do to get a similar setup with DCS here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1372974#post1372974
