When planning a mission in the mission editor, is there a way to vary the weapons loads?

I would like to fly night attack missions and would like to load the S-8OM Illumination-rockets. So far I can not locate a supply of these!:helpsmilie:

Open your mission-file Mission.miz.

Drag the file "mission" (which is in the file Mission.miz) into a folder.

Open the file "mission" with a proper text editor(Notepad++=) and change the payload of your Ka-50(or a AI-KA-50) of the 2 inner pylons (pylon 2 and pylon 3) to...

CLSID = "B_8V20A_OM",

Save and close the file "mission".

Drag the changed "mission" file in your Mission.miz back.

Load your Mission.miz with the DCS-BS-Missioneditor.

Go to the Ka-50 with the S-8OM-Rockets.

Open the payload.

Give the new payload a proper name.

The new payload is stored and will remain forever.

Yup what above says. You must create your own payload :)

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Many thanks. I will try this out tonight!

Together with the NVG "fix" the KA-50A is very challenging at night. I wonder what a KA-50N upgrade would be like IR pod + mm wave radar:-

Edit: The "miz" file when opened in Notepad++ is encrypted! I do not know how to view this file or if it can be edited.

OK. Here's what I discovered. This isn't in the manual, I don't think?

At the Mission arming screen, Right Click on the weapons loadout you wish to change and from the drop down list, select your preferred options!

A mix of 80M illumination rockets and Vikhr's is selectable for a night Anti- Armor mission! Although you can select any combinations on the 4 racks!

No need to "edit" any miz file, its all there in the mission editor!

Although, in reality, I doubt a pilot would have the control over his own weapons loadout. But for us, as Mission Planners, this feature is priceless!!

Nice one DCS! благодарность!!!

Ok, thxs for the info.

*.miz-Files are packed files. You have to open it with unpack-tools like winrar or winzip. The content of *.miz-files is not encrypted.

Are you talking about the weapons loadout screen in the mission editor?

Quite why anyone told you to edit files I don't know, unless they are suggesting it for a campaign mission, but even then they can be edited in the mission editor.

As you have found, go in the mission editor, select the vehical, select a weapons load out from the options, or create your own. Another option is to use the ground crew to change the load out on the ramp/pad.

Unless I am mistaking what your trying to do?

Hi Paul, no your spot on, thanks! It just took me a little time to find the "right click" on the weps loadout in the mission editor! Since I was interested in developing some night missions. Even though its the KA-50A and not the KA-50N ( Night attack enhanced variant!)

Now comes the training to employ the correct methods in the attack phase.

This mission development part of the sim gets more immersive the more I delve. The possibilities are endless. It occured to me this is a very good Battlefield simulator. I have been adding tanks, APC's etc to a mission to defend an airbase and foud that a couple of T80's can do a lot of damage to literally anything? And a wingman or two adds a whole new dimension........

The more you delve the more you relise the AI can be utterly stupid and you have to start editing/desiging around that. Sometimes you end up having to put in so much extra work to achieve such a simple thing.

Still lets hope A10 fixed it and we get better tools in BS soon.

Yes. A10 is on my wish list. But not untill I have my Russian Helicopter wings!

I have noticed some AI idiosyncracies...Tank drivers drink a little too much vodka and end up at 70+ degree angles, on slopes,...sometimes. But thats Tank drivers for you.....

Uspekhov!

It's the airbase AI I have the biggest gripe with. A lot of aircraft take an age to land/take off:

An aircraft has to be clear of the runway before the next will land, they will not stack up and time there arival. Sometimes they can be on finals and break off at the last minute as an aircraft is still on the runway, adding yet more time for them to get back into position.

They can crash into each other during taxi, sometimes causing massive explosions. Or they can just get stuck in a traffic jam and no one moves.

If you put a group, of say 4 aircraft, set to take off from the runway they will take off in two groups of two, if you set the same group to take off from the ramp they will take off individually.

When taking off the next aircraft will not join the runway until the previous aircraft has cleared the runway, meaning delay in getting large forces into the air.

The aircraft do not prioritise based on the requirement to land, for instance if one aircraft is on fumes it will still circle while a less urgent aircraft lands.

Some aircraft sometimes cut across the grass instead of using the taxi ways, sometimes this causes them to crash on the grass, sometimes crash into other aircraft on the taxi way, other times they get away with it, but it destroys the imersion.

A fast mover tends to require far less runway than there heavy brothers, but they will not use any of the taxi ways on the runway other than the one at the end. This means that they use about 1/5 of the runway then trundle very slowly to the end the runway, delaying everything that's following it.

Sometimes aircraft will land 2 at a time, a lot of the time this works, other times when they seperate for taxi they crash into each other on the runway, completely removing the runway from use.

Some of the airbases have multiple runways, the AI won't use both for either landing or take off, they just stick to one.

Hi,

I havn't come across the AI traffic on runways yet. I just recall Falcon 4.0 Allied Persuit, which was my last total immersive Battle Sim. If I remember, that had some pretty good AI at or around the airbase.I recall one occasion returning from a difficult mission and entering a massive "stack"! To my surprise, the lady ATC expertly guided me down through about 8 aircraft. I didn't need to call an emergency, I was fascinated by the accuracy and the feeling of immersion was almost complete.

In Falcon, I dont recall seeing any AI pilots doing strange stuff upon landing! So perhaps this aspect of BS needs looking at. Hope A10C has it sorted?

How old is Falcon now, 10+ years?

Back on topic, I did a night mission ( my own ) and incorporated AFAC aircraft to drop parachute flares at various target areas, using zones to trigger them, as I flew into each zone! Used loops to get the Frogs to refly the target zones. Everything worked! All I can say is amazing!:D Very amazing. The sight of those jets dropping the flares, right on cue,

Perhaps some parts of the AI are coded and tested and therefore work well, whilst other aspects appear not to. However, this sim has me putting in some very late nights:lol:

Still, as has been pointed out here and elsewhere, the AI can and do act in strange ways. If all the issues are addressed though, I bet we would need a complete HD just for BS! I'd buy one:cheer3nc:
