I was wondering if anyone has crafted a mission designed to stress test a user's PC using DCS A10. By "stress test," I mean what visual options are possible given a certain hardware spec.

For instance, in Falcon, we used to have a mission with lots of air activity and ground activity. The player would then configure his graphics settings, take a flight up, then run FRAPS (or whatever) as he flies over the FLOT. The FRAPS analysis then showed whether he could raise his graphics settings even more, or if he should lower some stuff.

That way, you didn't fly with gorgeous visuals only to suffer a slide show when things got hot.

Does anyone know of anything like this for DCS A10?

Run one of the campaign missions. Those have plenty of action. I used to use the campaign to tweak my settings with old PC, now it doesn't matter.

Any campaign mission, just use the same mission over again for testing ...etc.

I'm looking for more of an in-flight stress test, or one specifically designed for this purpose. Having said that, the Devil's Cross campaign looks good, if nothing but the overcast/rain.

Hmm ok, maybe I'm confused. If you run a campaign mission, the same mission, and fly it (you are technically "in-flight") Test your settings etc. Then restart the same mission, and test out settings again and so on. It serves the purpose of stress testing your rig & settings because the campaign missions can be very stressful on your machine.

Most campaign missions have a lot of units and action going on, so fly the mission and test settings. Adjust settings and fly again..etc. That's how I did it.

I think what the OP is saying is that he wants a good benchmarking test. Using a campaign mission might not be good for that because I would think there are triggers that create some sort of randomness to them so they don't fly exactly the same all the time. Meaning, it might spawn more or less units depending on how the mission is built. That's bad for benchmarking because it's always changing. Especially if your trying to measure if your picking up 4-10 frames more or less. The falcon benhcmark was a single mission that started you in the air and you made yourself invulnerable and select the autopliot the second you started it. The mission was built to have the exact same units and variables every time you tested it

The best I know of is Strongharm's unofficial FPS benchmarking mission:

He has also done the FPS Killer for those with a supercomputer:

The missions were built before the final release, but I think they will still be OK. There may also be other relevent threads in that section that I haven't seen.

Cheers,

BiPod.

I think StrongHarm created a mission designed to see how much the sim challenges the user's hardware. There was both a day and a night version.

Here's a little mention of it

And here's the mission itself.

Gah! sniped!

Force, that's exactly what I'm looking for, thanks for describing it properly.

BiPod and Rusty, thanks for the links, I'll be trying them out.
