jireland607 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) I know this has been asked many times before but I wanted to reopen the discussion now the Logitech have released the new firmware that should iron most of their issues. I want to spend around 200 pounds on a Hotas, I do not have much more and G940 will be a stretch. Its either the X52pro with pedals or Logitech G940. I have read many reviews on both. The G940 sounds really good on paper but I have also read many many horror stories. I would be well gutted if I spent £200 on a shocker. The X52 on the other hand has fewer features (except for a pretty useless LCD panel) but is more reliable. I currently have an X45, it works ok but i have a few gripes now. Mainly that the rudder is in an awful position, you have to contort your hand to use it. It also wanders a bit on centre, a show of age in the spring. I also want more hat switches now that I'm using DCS A10. I do not think that the X52 will supply enough for things like CMS and MIC though. I look forward to any input you can give me on this. Thanks:joystick: Edited March 3, 2011 by jireland607 ______________________________________________________________________________________ AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.4 Ghz | 8GB DDR3 Dual Channel | Ati HD4850 XFX | 22" Samsung TFT & NEC 17" touchscreen
galagamo Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I've had my G940 for 3 day's coming from an X52 I can say while the G940 has more functionality, it's far from perfect. My main complaints right now are the profile software it's inadequate to say the least, and the loose center 'aka' slop. I'm seriously considering gutting the FF motors and installing a spring lol I did manage to map the entire A10c HOTAS without much compromise 4 shift buttons lol. I cant recommend the G940 at this time. jireland607 Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 Thanks, replacing parts after 3days? Thats really poor. I just can't help thinking that you could buy a PS3 for that. When you think how much is in one of those, surely they can get a bloody joystick working OK. Out of interest, what made you move from the X52? Was it the hype? ______________________________________________________________________________________ AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.4 Ghz | 8GB DDR3 Dual Channel | Ati HD4850 XFX | 22" Samsung TFT & NEC 17" touchscreen
emenance Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I have owned a 940 for a few weeks and have not had enough time to sink teeth into it yet but so far I can see myself maybe being ok with it. Just like some pro's I have seen here and on the net be happy with it for lock on and BS but some demand better and right fully so. Bottom line is that its all up to personal preferance and its totally a GAMBLE to find what you like. I thought that theg940 would give the flight sim world a real boost and a quality controler. The world is still waiting for something that works that is precise and doesnt have a bunch of bugs or worries. I ordered a x52 pro but i got sick of the thought and sent it back with out opening it. Amazon has the g940 for less around 260 Asus P8Z68-V GEN3/ 2500k 4.4ghz / Corsair 64gb SSD Cache / Corsair 8g 1600 ddr3 / 2 x 320gb RE3 Raid 0 /Corsair 950w/ Zotac 560TI AMP 1gb / Zalman GS1200 case /G940/
galagamo Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I didnt mean to sound too critical of the G940. Like I said I just got it I'm still learning how to set it up properly, you would probably do well to not listen to me from my noob POV. replacing parts after 3days? Thats really poor. No I haven't replaced any parts, it's a well built solid HOTAS 'as far as I can tell' I'll give it that. Out of interest, what made you move from the X52? Was it the hype?I still have my trusty X52, it aint going no wheres, I guess I was ready to try some force feedback and the G940 being the only complete FFB HOTAS it wasn't a tough choice. I'm still messing with it, no buyers remorse just yet:thumbup: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] OS:WIN7 HP X64|MOBO:ASRock Z68|CPU:I52500k@4Ghz|RAM:12Gb 3x4Gb GSkill Ripjaws 9-9-9-24 @1600Mhz|GPU:ASUS GTX580|HDD:2x128Gb Crucial sataIII SSD raid0|PSU:Antek 1000watt|Case:Antek 1200|Peripherals: TMWH|Saitek ProFlight rudder pedals|TrackIr4
