Grimes Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I honestly think that the mission goals and points are a bit unfair for the loadout that you are given to start the mission. 4 mavs each + only a half tank of gas + no refuel. If you somehow delay both columns, you have to wait an hour and half total mission time to be able to get all 100 points for the mission. That is tough to impossible to do with such short fuel, and to wait around that hour and half is a real waste especially if you are out of ordinance. You could just RTB and ctrl-z to speed the mission through or something I think this mission is one of two things, 1. "do what you can, you aren't supposed to 'win' it". 2. Its a modern day cold-war gone hot scenario where the A-10 is lightly armed in order to increase speed and maneuverability and the cloud deck exists to force the player to fly where the hog was meant to be flown. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Wayc00lio Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Do what you can is fine but I can't seem to advance beyond the first mission. Can anyone shed any tactics to be used on this one? I agree. Thing is that DCS: A-10 WH and the way missions/campaigns work doesn't readily allow for a detailed debrief after a mission is over to let the pilot know just how they have affected the outcome. Yes it shows hard cold numbers on who shot who and how many targets may have been killed....but in the first mission here the pilot could fly by the book, check in with JTAC, kill a few tanks, be dismissed by JTAC for expending all of the ordinance, return and land...but not know if you actually succeeded in delaying the units. If you do all this within an hour and quarter and quit the mission you are rewarded with a score of 51 and proceed to the next mission. Did the pilots actions result in delaying the column? You don't know because it is not reflected in the mission score. Even worse, with the release version of the mission, you do everything you are told, like above, and return to base to find the AI is stuck on the runway and cannot get clearance to land and out of frustration your quit while in the air, you find a mission score of 50 and have the same mission come up again because you didn't get that 1 point for landing. I think the triggers that show a delay of the columns should come a bit earlier....at least have them start accruing points by the time a typical pilot is released from JTAC and lands back at home. This way they can land at base and see a score higher than 51, and know that the higher score was because they completed the goal of the mission....that is....to delay the advance of the Red units. Wayc00lio Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Right, off to try it again and see if I can get to the next mission! Mirtma Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I noticed two bridges. Road and over-road. And armour columns are going over first and under second bridge. Maybe we should destroy those two. I noticed them too late (I didn't have any ammo left) and when I land, mission was success. Wayc00lio Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Well I just kept shooting the lead tanks, one pass and turn off target, south to adder and kept their progress hampered. It worked and now I'm on mission two :-) At last!!!! maxmax Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 I made a personal weapons loadout that makes it a bit easier. Six mavs and five gbu12s. Should be enough to kill a few tanks. Still haven't finished it properloy though, or got the targets from jtac? Does it work by setting both Ids to 1? or group 2 personal 1? What are the correct settings. This is freaking me out! growl.:joystick:

maxmax Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 I've played that mission like ten times and the JTAC allways worked. How do you do it? Do you press any switches before contacting? I've played it like ten times, and never got the red triangle.
Mirtma Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Beside radio talk I only accept task with WILCO. And then when red triangle appears i select it and set it as target Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X | i5 10600K@4700 | 32 Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | Gigabyte Aorus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11G | MONITOR IIYAMA 24,5" LED LCD @ 1920 x 1080 | Windows 11 | Saitek X-55 Rhino | TrackIR 5 Pro
Mirtma Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 You will now need to read back the target location and elevation, and other data if applicable such as final attack heading. To do so, press \ and then F1. With the read back complete, the JTAC will message "Standby for data". Soon after you will receive a text message digital 9-line on your MSG page and a small, red triangle will appear on the TAD at the target location. You can then use the TAD cursor to make this new symbol your SPI. To accept the tasking, press the WILCO OSB. Manual page 641. I do the read back and get the message "Standby for data". But then nothing. No triangle. "Beside radio talk I only accept task with WILCO.". What does this mean in practical terms? I.e. what to press and why? Sorry if questions are stupid, still a noob.
Mirtma Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Maybe you must change view of map if the the target is further than MFD shows. Maby so :) That would make me look stupid :music_whistling: Anyway, I'll try that, thanks :) I have flown over the target area, and also got shot down by the convoy. So I'm assuming that's not the problem. But i'll give it a try.
Mirtma Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Well, I'm stupid too :music_whistling: First time I was flying around and waiting :joystick: (I think some 10 minutes or so) then I remembered to zoom out map. zamboni Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I haven't been able to get the datalink data from JTAC anytime in this mission (with the default group ID). Was wondering, for those of you who did get the data (Mirtma and Irregular Programming) were you using the normal radio settings or the easy radio settings? I wonder if this has something to do with it.
Smokin Hole Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) "Well done soldier!" Just finished Devil's Cross today. JTAC always worked for me. His coordinates were on, his red diamond was on. His BDA seemed off to me based on the results screen. (JTAC would always sell me short on kills.) The problem with the mission is: The weather--made my FPS pretty low. Viziani Airbase--also made my FPS slow (but better since the patch). And the wingmen who usually decided to stay in the hangar. Score on this mission seemed mostly based on successful check-in and check-out with JTAC. Oh yes and about datalink. First, it has nothing to do with JTAC. 2nd it seems to work if you accept the mission (and just 2 AGMs and no TGP) WITHOUT using the mission planner screen. Everytime I modified the loadout with that screen my EPLRS would reset to ID0 and Group0. Usually I could never find the Group ID my wingy was using. However, the 2 times I skipped the mission planner screen I had the other members of my flight on the TAD (remaining in the hangar of course). Edited March 8, 2011 by Smokin Hole 1

Nearly every mission I play I go to the mission planner screen and mess with something. I was testing something out with the mission planner last night (was messing with JTAC and trying to get him to switch targets midstream). I think all I had to do was select the JTAC in the mission editor and save. When I tested out the mission he would not have any tasking for me when I checked in. I had to go back into the ME and reassign all of my triggers/settings for JTAC, even though everything looked OK in the ME. Looks like a general bug in the ME that when you select a unit it breaks/resets the settings for that unit. If the ED guys haven't figured this out yet, I think it would be useful to point it out to them. May have to make a post in the tech forums or something about it.
Wayc00lio Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Well I've only done the first mission so far and I used normal (not easy) comms. I also changed the loadout to include 6 MAVs and a TGP. It all went according to plan once I figured out just what I needed to do. Oh, I did change the Net IDs to group 01 and own 01. JTAC target info appeared as per the documentation. I just did 4th mission and it was first that I didn't get red triangle. And at beginning I contact ground crew to change my weapons (6 mavs, tgp). Wingman stayed at hangar. I contacted with JTAC and after 6th mav he got no more targets. I RTB. Mission done with 65 pts. maxmax Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Well, finally got jtac working. After take off my id was set to 4-1 for some reason. And i got the red triangle. Now I just have to figure out how to make the triangle my spi. which button n which order. Don't know why it suddenly started working. Other than that I updated my computer. New cpu, motherboard and memory. And of course got bsod. Have to work on that now dammit, but seem to have found the problem.
