Conure Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) Hey all, As topic says really...Say the elevation of an airfield is 66, does that quite literally mean the airfield is 66 feet (metres?) higher than the level of the sea? If, for example, I want to tune my baro alt to the airport I intend to land at, Do i just twist the knob on the barometic altimeter until it is at 66? Sorry for the simple question but this seems too simple to be true! Conure Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 It's that simple. Wow you replied before I'd refreshed! I have a personality defect...If something seems simple it MUST be because I haven't understood it properly, so I will scour the earth to find details I am missing...Sometimes it seems, I don't need to! Cheers :) Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
Conure Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 Okay, another quick one :D Runway 26 means the runway heading is 260 degrees or roughly west...If the runway was actually facing 26 degrees, would it be rounded to and called runway 36? (yes, I realise I'm playing this game like a civilian simulator and should spend less time on this and more time dropping bombs...:D) Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
GGTharos Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 It's easy to do when you are on the ground, since you can just adjust the altimeter to read either the elevation of the airport or (if you really want) zero. If however you are arriving at a different airport or the pressure changes, you need information from tower about their barometric pressure to set your altimeter correctly. Kaiza Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 If it was facing 026 it would be runway 03 (or 3 in the US) 1 [SIGPIC]http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/2500/a10161sqnsignitureedite.png[/SIGPIC]
Conure Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 If it was facing 026 it would be runway 03 (or 3 in the US) Got it, so round to the nearest ten and multiply by 10 = heading? Thank you both. 1 Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
Kaiza Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Yep. Round to nearest 10 and divide by 10 = runway name/number. As an aside a quick way to get the reciprocal runway heading is the +2/-2 rule. So either add 2 to the first number of the runway name, and then do the opposite to the other. 0+2 = 2 3-2 = 1 So for 03, the reciprocal runway would be 21 [SIGPIC]http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/2500/a10161sqnsignitureedite.png[/SIGPIC]

Conure Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 We need a weather engine! Do we not have one? I saw that I could set weather to dynamic in a mission setup but I'm unsure whether that is what you mean! P.s - Rise of Flight is getting a DC!!!
