Hi,

I have the latest FreeTrack version working almost perfectly with a TrackClip Pro. The FreeTrack 3D head moves precisely as I move my head, except it translates it to wider movements, which is fine. What isn't fine is the fact that the same is not true in DCS Black Shark. The view changes almost like I move my head. That is, the movements are not translated as wider.

So basically, I can't move the pilot's head enough to look at and of the side panels, or the lower panel where the stick is, not to mention looking back.

It seems to me that FreeTrack is configured fine, considering the way the 3D head behaves.

So I guess both TrackIR and FreeTrack users can help me in configuring Black Shark for decent headtracking.

Thanks.

If you want the head movement to be more sensitive, that is, turning your head a little translattes into the virtual head turning a lot, there's two ways.

Either just increase the 'Sensitivity' slider in the Profile page, for both Yaw and Pitch.

Or in the Curves tab right click in both Yaw and Pitch curves and select Linear. Fine tune the right upper most dot to the right to how many degrees you want the virtual head to move.

The vertical show how many degrees you real head moves, and the horizontal to how much degrees it should be translated. So if the curve is straight line in the 40 degrees in both horizontal and vertical you have a 1:1 mapping from your head into the game.

Well, I didn't change anything, but now the 3D head does not move at all, despite the fact that FreeTrack is showing 3 green lights, meaning it's tracking the leds.

OK, I got it a lot more responsive now using the Sensitivity sliders, but it's a bit shaky. That is, it's hard to make the view hold still.

Thanls, that helped a lot.

However, there's still a bit of a shaking. Can I add a dead zone to the Yaw and Pitch axis?

Right click in any of the curves and select one of the 'Dead Zone' options.

Another thing that help is increasing the Average slider in the Advanced tab, i use around 10%. Increasing makes it more smother at the cost of speed, making the head lag behind you real head.

The deadzone option seems to do the trick, somewhat.

Something that annoying me is the default head position. Can I configure the game to always start with the farthest head position?

Nevermind, I'm used to changing the zoom with the mouse when I start a mission anyway...

Overall, I'm very pleased with the way FreeTrack works for me.

One small problem that's left is the fact the FreeTrack loses track of the middle IR LED when I turn my head too much to the right or left. Will removing the PS3 Eye's IR filter help? Cause right now, I need to use a lot of gain for the IR LEDS to be tracked decently by FreeTrack, in pitch black darkness.

I'm using a Wii remote and a custom clip, so i'm not what you can do.

In my case now it loses track just a bit further then the point where i can't look at the screen anymore, so it's good enough. I did have a problem with the middle LED losing track once, that later i discovered as because my hair got in the way, the solution as a haircut. :D

About the head position, there's a topic for changing the default for the A-10C, not sure if it's the same for BS.

I took me 2 weaks of playing with settings to get every thing just right on my system setup. Just keep making small changes till you are happy with it. You will get there and then it will all be fun.

It's ALREADY fun! :D

Also, my last problem of losing track of the middle LED was because, well, the camera can't see through my head, so I used the TrackClip Pro's "leg" to extend the LEDs to the left, and now they are all exposed at even extreme angles.
