Hey guys.

Well, today arrived my new cpu, i7 970 and my GTX 590 overclocked edition (POV).

And guess what, my chassis is too small! I cant fit the GTX 590 into it!'

So yeah, i need a new chassis (is this even the right word for it? :P ), and im looking into buying this one:

http://lian-li.com/v2/tw/product/upload/image/pc-a77f/flyer.html

Reasons why, well, I can easily afford it here in Norway, and it's got 6 fans, which probably means it will have good ventilation, and that's important, since the GTX 590 tends to get a little hot during hectic load.

But would any of you recommend anything else? Or will this case do the job? :)

Thanks in advance.

chassis or case is fine and that one should work for you. just make sure that your power supply or the cases power supply is enough.

Four front USB is fairly common (my ancient HAF has 4 USB, 1 Firewire and one eSATA in front). The nice thing to note right there is that it's four USB3's. Future-proof. :)

First for me would be build quality, next would be is it easy to work on. like getting to drives, expansion cards, RAM etc. And last does it look good to you.

Just thought of something...

This is my PSU:

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Corsair-HX1000W-Power-Supply-Review/484

And notice, with that case, that the PSU will be at the bottom. In my case right now, the PSU is mounted at the TOP of the case inside, and there's a fan that sucks in air and blows it out.

Now....do i have to mount the PSU upside down or something, so the fan doesnt just suck metal? Oo

*edit* .. unless its already upside down inside my case right now. :P

If you look at the case there is a vent on the bottom. So you will just mount it upside down.

How is it supposed to suck air in if the fan faces upwards? Fan at the bottom sucks cold air in, fan at the back blows hot air out = hot air from the PSU does not enter case at all. All the other fans in the case take care of the hot air from CPU/GPU/MB.

But isnt the fan supposed to suck IN air, and blow it out? Wouldnt it be better having it face upwards? And not just into the floor, so to speak? I'm itching to buy it, but at the same time, im still looking around...

My question is does that fan on the top of the PS draw air into the PS or does it exhaust from the PS?

It works either way; the definining part was whether or not there was a grid/grill/mesh at the bottom to allow for traditional-way-up mounting as an option.

I would say it depends on your graphics card as to which you go for, if the cooling on the card has fans that draw air in over the card and expel it out of a rear blanking plate slot, then you want to mount the PSU with fan downward so it's not competing for air with the graphics.

If the fans on the graphics are blowing out into the case, use the PSU's fan to draw it through and out the PSU quick by mounting it with the fans facing up (if there's no other exhause fan you can put between the graphics and PSU - unlikely).

The PSU fan is for cooling the PSU and not your case; but not at the expense of creating a hot pocket of air from your graphics card.

Btw this is my current case:

http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/xasercase/shark/silver/silver.htm

And the GTX 590 is made so it blows air out at both ends of the card, meaning, one end *will* blow hot air into my case.

Which is why, again, i want a case that has lots of fans to blow the air out and have good ventilation.

So if i go with this case in mind, and face the PSU so the fan points up into the case, you think it will do just fine?

Posted

So long as the GPU fans are pulling air over themselves into the heatsink, then PSU fan face down, you want cool air seeping along the bottom of the case (usually from a front intake fan or side panel fan) and being drawn into the GPU fans uncontested, if it expels out both sides, let a higher exhaust flow take that back out the case.
