REL Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Hey Just came across this vid ... Do we have that kind of flack in DCS A-10C Warthog ? Fastforward to 1:26 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9tGCCrLy2o
GGTharos Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 No, we do not. Yet (I hope). [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Nate--IRL-- Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 See The Serpents Tail mission, I attempted to create Flak with triggers above Tshkinvali. With a bit of effort I imagine it could be made to work a lot better than I managed to do it. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
sobek Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Is air defense artillery still in use? I would have thought that these systems have been replaced by SAM. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Boberro Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 FLAKs would add many immersion of the battlefield. I remember them in Falcon and they were really threaty. Hope there will be some mods which allow to make FLAKs fire eaisly and overall it would be better if we had modelled some real FLAK guns ;] Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
GGTharos Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Not by a long-shot. For example, North Korea has masses of it. Other countries as well. I think Russia has mostly decomissioned them, same with US. Is air defense artillery still in use? I would have thought that these systems have been replaced by SAM. Have these systems received any upgrades to their basically WWII tech then? Radar guidance like modern middle caliber SHORAD AAA systems, e.g.? Or is it still spray and pray? Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
GGTharos Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Technically all such atrillery is 'spray and pray' but they've been radar guided for a long time now, and it is entirely possible that the shells are fitted with proximity and contact fuzes in addition to the timed fuzing. Well, technically, yes, but it is still a long way from 'shoot in the general direction and hope for the odd fluke' to having radar assist and as such, 'exact' distance and speed vectors of the target for t=0. :) Good, fast, cheap.
