Jarith Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Hi all, This looks like it sounds familiar on these forums. Before last week I'd never heard of this awesome simulator. I'd honestly given up on PC flight sims feeling that they'd really fallen off the radar over the past 10 years. Keeping in mind I'd missed Black Shark for some reason. After reading a review for A-10C my jaw dropped. I'd been an armchair pilot of combat sims since the early 90's flying F-15 Strike Eagle, Falcon, Gunship and more. I even had some of the original Thrustmaster controllers, the best being the F-16 stick they brought out. Up until last week I didn't even feel the need for a flight stick since I wasn't playing anything that required it. After seeing the reviews of A-10C I bought it, my jaw dropped. Also picked up Black Shark. I went out and grabbed a Cyborg Fly5 stick, just because I didn't wanna invest an arm and a leg into this just yet, lol. I did pick up a TrackIR and LOVE it. Been using hat controllers on flight sticks for 20 years but it just never felt natural. TrackIR is just amazing. My question is in regards to setting it up right. I noticed when I'm running A-10C (Steam version) that the TrackIR software picks the Black Shark profile and not the A-10C. I do have the 5.1 version of the software and the newest game database loaded into it. I dunno if this is part of the only problem I seem to have with TrackIR. It works great for looking around the front dash, but if I need to get a closer look at the panels to my left and right (where the pilots arms would be) I have a hell of a time getting close to them. I'm using the default settings on the TrackIR software. Again, love the sim! Looking forward to learning to really fly this bird. :)
sobek Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I use the same profiles for a-10 and BS, play a bit around with the sensitivities and smoothing values, to get a feeling for what is what, then adjust to your liking, it's no rocket science. ;) Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
A10FAN Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Try setting your Camera IR brightness to around 14 and play with as little light in the room as possible, you should should be able to closer to the left and right bottom panels http://www.youtube.com/user/TheA10FAN?feature=mhum coolermaster HAF full tower Intell i7 960 bloomfield 4.0Ghz Evga X58 Classified 3 mobo Corsair H-60 Hydro Cooler Corsair Dominator GT 12g DDR3 1866 ram Corsair Pro Series AX1200w ps OCZ Vertex3 SSD 240g Evga GTX590 Vid Card Creative X-FI Titanium soundcard TM Warthog Hotas
Hexcaliber Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Currently there is no profile for A10 in trackir, the devs simply modified the black shark profile to activate when the game is launched as they are from the same stable, they do this quite often, and we are unlikely to see a custom a10 profile as there appears to be no practical need for one. As for the views, unfortunately there are some limitations to trackir depending on its relationship between you and the tracking unit, with some of the more awkward angles using a track clip pro can help, but it is clipped to a head set and many prefer not to use one. However, for the rest of us there are snap views that you can use to view the left and right panels causing you problems. To use them , hit ctrl + numpad 0 to activate snap view mode, then numpad 1 and numpad 3 switch to left and right panels respectively, you can also use snap views to access full screen views of the left and right mfd's using numpad 4 and 6.
bluepilot76 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Hi Jarith, Mine works fine on default settings. Make sure you are pointing the camera directly at your reflectors or proclip before starting the sim, there is a display in the Track IR software, make sure your reflectors or lights show up straddling the crosshairs. This will give you the best chance of not going out of the field of view when you duck down to look at the side panels. Track clip pro is a huge leap forward compared to the reflectors though. With the reflectors you may also need to close the curtains, turn down the lights etc. Technical Specs: Asus G73JW gaming laptop... i7-740QM 1.73GHz ... GTX460m 1.5GB ... 8GB DDR5 RAM ... Win7 64 ... Jarith Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 Thanks for the responses guys. I thought of the Track Clip Pro, but I'm using a behind the head Logitech headset, I didn't think it would work with it. I'm gonna have to play with the settings a bit. Thanks Hex for the hotkeys for the snap views. I might map those to my Joystick. :)

I also have the logitech behind the ear headset... I use a plastic hair band (yes that thing a GIRL wears LOL) and put my TIR on that. Tried mounting the TIR on the headset and it just doesnt work. the hatclip wont work as well as the clip. I made a profile that I really like... its fast as hell on normal use and the precision mode I dont use much.. I attached a copy below. note that i have 3 keys mapped directly to my stick that you will need to remap. You may want to delete the other profiles that you have. TIR was having a problem selecting the "default" profile when the game launched (i think it was fixed though), so i just keep 1 profile available to the app. currently, i use TIR for only A-10 so if your using it for another game you may want to try another profile.... sorry i dont have more info. for looking at your MFDs and panels, try using "quick views" by pressing RCTRL+NUM0, then the keypad number keys on your keyboard (I remapped my activate/deactivate key to just NUM0)... its great. You can also look at Helios or HawgTouch if you have multiple monitors.smooth.zip Edited April 27, 2011 by jeffyd123 1 i7 8700K @ 4.4Ghz, 16G 3200 RAM, Nvidia 1080Ti, T16000 HOTAS, TIR5, 75" DLP Monitor
Jarith Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 Thanks! I appreciate all the help. :) I may just have to break down and get the clip, sounds like it's a lot more accurate than using the one that comes with the TrackIR. I have it on an old baseball cap right now, which never did fit right anyway. Never have found a cap that fits well on my melon, lol.

This is the profile I use with Trackir 4 with the Trackclip Pro. It has just the right amount of sensitivity and as long as I have the sensor lights centered on the camera view I can see anywhere in the cockpit I need to.
