hey all,

I was wondering how the trim system works in the A10.

Is it normal that i only can trim when there is no stick input ? I have to release the stick, then trim.

E.g. in a cessna, you keep pushing the stick fwd and you trim so you don't have to push it so hard.

Does it work in the same way in the A10 ?

Or is it some setting in my controller profile (X52pro) ?

I have some problems with the throttle too. Sometimes (1/5 times), i have full throttle applied, and i see on the instruments (and hear the engine) that there seems to be no throttle applied. I've checked my axis of the throttle and all seems right.

Is this a know issue ?

Thanks in advance !

Kind regards,

Merijn.

Trim system works the same as in a Cessna, from a pilot's viewpoint. Unfortunately it is one of those things which can't be exactly replicated using a spring-loaded joystick attached to a PC, so you have to trim and release the stick force as you do.

What happens when you trim with the stick deflected? Nothing? If you hold the stick steady, the aircraft should pitch/bank in the direction of trim.

hey all,

I've set mine up, so that the Mouse Stick on the throttle issues the trim commands with bands. That's how I do the trim now. It's cool and really already feels like second nature now. I would not assign one of the hats to trim, since you wanna be constantly trimming, no matter what mode you're in, IMHO.

The mouse stick could of course also be used to replace any other 4-way hat...

If you need help setting up the bands, I can give you my profile, it's for the X52 Pro.

Failure to trim while flying may be related to too many inputs. I know on my CH setup if I'm doing too many thing at once, sometimes even the stick axis don't get sent to the game so I have to let go of everything for a moment.

Thanks for the inputs !

When the stick isn't moved, i can trim and i feel/see the effects.

But i remember that i haven't had this problem in the beginning. But i can't remember what i did to make it stop working.

Kungfoo, could you post your profile please ?

The other problem is that i have throttle drops. The A10 is full throttle, i don't move the throttle on the X52pro, but suddenly my core engine rpm drops to zero, without input. I have to keep the throttle moving to keep full rpm.

Merijn,

It sounds like you may have another axis assigned to the throttle that is at idle, so if it occasionally gets bumped it's telling the sim "No, wait, throttle to idle!"

You should carefully go through the control assignments and make sure nothing else is assigned to the throttle other than your X52 throttle. The two things I'd check first are the thumb slider on your X52's throttle (I notice that tends to get defaulted to the throttle in most of my games), and check your pedals, especially if they have a brake axis.

Thanks. I've checked all the axis. I'll let you know.

The only problem I still have is the trim... Very strange.

I think I know your issue as I had the same problem.

Are you sure you aren't using the "stick to trimmer control mode" button? If you go into the controls page and scroll all the way down to Trim you will see 5 options for trim left right down etc. Set these to a hat switch and you should be back laughing.

Can you explain this some more (maybe screenshot) ?

So that i'm sure i'm doing the right thing.

Hopefully this will solve everything.

What's the stick to trimmer mode ?

thanks

Thanks. I've checked all the axis. I'll let you know.

Find the throttle in the in-game options. Under "Axis tune" tick the box marked "slider" :)

You may need to set the throttle manually in-game outside the profile first, and beware that for the X52, the game picks the default throttle as the "precision slider" so unless you've cleared or remapped that, it may create a conflict.

Did it. I'll see if it happens again. Hopefully not.

Now the trim problem :).

I'll try and define everything later this evening.

I got similar problem with my g25 pedals which are used as rudder. I have to keep pumping the pedal while turning to not suddenly center the rudder i.e. in tight taxiway turn.

Trim problem? Try turning off Force Feedback in options.

I think the trim problem is solved. I assigned the buttons of my x52 in the in-game trim controls. Now i can trim again while pressure is applied to the stick.

Thanks for all the tips & tricks !!

Did you manage to assing it to the mini-Stick? I can still post my profile later on, when I get near my PC.

Ok, so I've been finally able to sit sown at the PC and get the profile. :)

I took this profile here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=59208 and modified till it suited my style.

You can see that I've mapped the mini stick on the throttle using bands, so that it acts as the trim stick. I kinda like this setup, because the mini stick was not useful to me in any other way.

I have also assigned the "D" button on the throttle so it acts as "Left Shift". This enables me to bind the throttle 4-way hat in the sim as follows:

Throttle Hat: All DMS functions

Throttle Hat + LShift: All TMS functions.

This way, I have DMS and TMS not split up into two separate modes on the X52Pro, but accessible from all modes.
