Zeke Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Hi, I can do this when I start in the air in a mission but when I start on the ramp for some reason I can't seem to get into 'Mark Points' steer-point mode. I try using the UFC and turning the dial on the counsel. I'm sure I must be missing something. EGI is set before taking off and such. I can see the points being made in the CDU each time I press and make a new point. Any ideas?
Nu-NRG Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 UFC: Func + Spc AAP: Switch to mark I think that should do it, tho I'm at work ATM and can't confirm. Aviate - Navigate - Communicate
FlyingBrick Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I had a problem with creating Mark Points using the TAD, I too could see them being made on the CDU but switching to Mark Point mode with the dial would just leave me stuck on the airport steer point 0. Switching to Mark Point mode before creating the Mark Point fixes this.
Zeke Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 FlyingBrick, I'll have to try that, I can get the whole thing to work when I start a mission in the air, just have this problem when I start on the ramp. Slacker, I have a 'flightplan' with waypoints, I'm just trying to get into 'mark' mode so I can see them in the HUD and I can switch the TGP to the marks. Thanks guys!

Speed Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 (edited) This is known as most likely being a bug to us users, but the testers say they can't reproduce it. Which is shocking because, at least to me, it happens like 20% of the time I try to use markpoints. Less often recently, but I think it happened to me like a week and and half ago in some long mission. I can only guess the testers don't use mark points very often, or the bug? is related to something specific some users are doing. Note that the mark points have all the geographic data filled in in the CDU, they exist on the CDU, and if you add them to the flight plan you can reference them. But you CANNOT cycle through them after rotating the FLGHT PLN/MARK/MISSION knob to MARK- you're stuck on waypoint 0 or waypoint 1. The problem is this, for me, that the problem only ever happens in the middle of a 50 MB track, making it impossible to share the track, since we are limited to only 10MB of share space, and I don't have anywhere online I can host a file that big. You'd think that ED would allow each user to upload a single, up to 75MB track file that would be auto-deleted after two weeks (HINT HINT) but unfortunately we do not have this option. Anyway, the times I have tried replicating the inability to select cycle through mark points in a shorter track have always failed. Maybe just bad luck? I can remember that at least the last three times that I used mark points they worked correctly. Basically, if you rotate that knob below the CDU to "MARK" and you can't cycle through your markpoints, your only option is to go select FPM under the CDU, then FP BUILD, and add the markpoint to your flight plan. Then you can use the mark point, because it's now part of your flight plan. Baggy MacDouche Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I've had this happen to me multiple times and always figured I was doing something wrong. This sim is so complex that it can be hard to know if what you are experiencing is a bug or user error. I know that I have somehow fixed it mid-flight, but not sure what I did. Lots of knob twisting and button mashing. For some reason I have reason to believe that clearing it up might have had something to do with cycling Master Modes and/or weapon profiles via the HUD and DMS L/R. FlyingBrick Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I can recreate this easily. I used Create a Fast Mission to generate a mission with nothing else on the map starting from the ramp. After startup I created Mark Point A with the TAD and then switched to Mark from the AAP, HUD shows 0 init(?) and the TAD doesn't show the Mark Point. Creating Mark Point B while still in Mark mode allows Mark Point A to show up on both the TAD and HUD and both Mark Points are now selectable. Same mission except starting from the runway. Create Mark Point A with the TAD and then switch to Mark mode, Mark Point A shows up on both TAD and HUD. I'm using auto startup so I don't think it's anything I'm forgetting.
Speed Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I happened to me again tonight. And again, the track, after zipping, is 45MB. Thought I had for a bit but then realised I was using CMS RIGHT instead of TMS. I guess one shouldn't 'hog first thing. :( Tried with both runway and cold start and didn't have any issues. For the cold start, I just used the APU generator, enabled EGI and switched on the CICU and IFFCC while waiting for full align (i.e. t=4, and the blinking text) before enabling NAV mode, and then made mark points on the TAD. They were all created and when I switched to mark point mode I could cycle them without issues. If you could provide a track of your repro it would be useful. Edited May 25, 2011 by nomdeplume

It's a great list to start from. At least none of those sites gave me a virus just visiting them, which I figured might happen if I just searched for "free upload" :( I got uploading.com to work with minimal fuss. Here's the link: http://uploading.com/files/2aba645m/MarkpointFailure.zip/ So anyay, at ~08:38:59, I create the first markpoint, markpoint A. I do not attempt to use it till 08:45:20, at which point I cannot select it. Rotary knob set to MARK, DMS up/down with HUD SOI, desperation attempt with the steer increment and decrement button, nada. Nav system stuck on Waypoint 3. I just have to add the mark point to my flight plan, switch the rotary back to FLGHT PLAN, which I do, in order to reference it. Zeke Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 Here is a short track showing the problem I'm having with this. Happens every time. Hope this can be of help.Mark Points Test.trk
nomdeplume Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 (edited) Thanks Zeke. For anyone else testing that track, mark points are created at 18 minutes into it (12:18:00). I tried a whole bunch of stuff and couldn't get it to display the mark point when you switched to MARK mode, but as soon as you create a new one while in MARK mode it does. Haven't been able to replicate though. It's an ... interesting startup sequence, but I can't see anything that's obviously missing. Well, except for closing the canopy. :) But I doubt that's the issue. Maybe it's the order of events that somehow confuses the waypoint system. Edit: and it's not the mission itself, just went through it with my usual (albeit accelerated) startup sequence and didn't have any issue with the mark points. Edited May 25, 2011 by nomdeplume
FlyingBrick Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Here's a track of my problem. I'm using the Steam version in case it matters.Mark Point Fail.trk
Zeke Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 Well, that's what I get for rushing the start up and not checking my 'checklist'. Doh! Also, as long as we are talking canopy. Clicking the switch in the cockpit doesn't work for me, I have to use the keyboard, everything else works ok.
Zeke Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 Even if you hold the right click? Don't I feel stupid.... I knew I used to be able to shut it with a click, YES the right button works. Thanks!

This is exactly what happens to me too. I can be inbound on a target area, find a bunch of targets with my TGP, mark them using TMS rt sht. Then I flip over to Mark mode on the cdu and all I have is Waypoint 0. If I create another mark point, the previous ones will then show up. I'd say this happens at 50% of the time for me. I always thought it was something I was doing incorrectly until I saw this thread.
ScorpionFalcon Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Hey I just experienced the markpoint issue during the mission Hideout EN. I use the same startup sequence as in other missions where I have no markpoint problems. Can anyone verify this as well?
Baggy MacDouche Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Confirmed this last night as well. Cold start from ramp with selector in Flight Plan mode the whole time. Created several mark points and when I switched the selector to Mark, they did not show up. I then created one more new mark point and there they all were. kungfoo Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Happened to me last time I was playing "the dam" with a friend of mine. Tried to fix this for so long I got shot donw by a SA-19.
Speed Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Can we get a response from the testers? Can you guys confirm this behavior yet? Has it been reported yet? So anyway, the work-around for this bug is to make markpoints WHILE in the rotary knob under the CDU is turned to MARK mode?
