bigbadthomazzz Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Heey everyone, - I am planning to build an home cockpit in my closet. But i cant find any dimensions off the MIG 29 A or G or S. Can some of you help me get that? - I also need the dimensions of the heads up display :) I searched me ass of the last couple of days but i have find only one picture with dimensions of the modern MIG version. Best regards, Thomas :D
Advicepuppy Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 This doesn't have dimensions, but it's pretty darned cool http://www.c4dcafe.com/ipb/gallery/image/12406-mig-29-cockpit-update/ I'll help look, but so far, nothing.

bigbadthomazzz Posted June 2, 2011 Author Posted June 2, 2011 The inflight photo is realy awesome :D great feeling when you look to it :megalol: I allready have the second photo, but thanks anyway
bigbadthomazzz Posted June 5, 2011 Author Posted June 5, 2011 Heey pit builders :), I started to make an cardboard setup to see and test if the size is oke and everything is in the right place. I think everything is right, gonna test it this night. If iam convinced i may start building tomorrow :joystick: Here a pic off me fully (not working) cardboardpit: The MFD's you are seeing now are from paper, but gonna be replaced by the thrustmaster ones. In the upper left corner i gonna use a ipod touch with touchbuddy as a combat panel. In the upperright corner i gonna also use an ipod touch for the general controls like engines and gears. The mid sections will become the place off me ipad with lock on virtual panel. The HUD will be, i think, made first. And the panel need some extra work on the dimensions. What do you think off my cockpit project! I am glad to hear it  Best regards, Thomas :D
Deadman Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Look back through t the threads some one out of the EU was building a grip and had mad a front Main instrument panel. I think he had used ED's grahics from Lock on as a reference. It may be of some help https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Advicepuppy Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Lol I'd have trouble at even that stage. Man, the skill you people possess at making stuff is remarkable.
bigbadthomazzz Posted June 5, 2011 Author Posted June 5, 2011 I think you just have to begin ;) But first have your plan ready. Maybe you will not beleave it but i thinked about an home cockpit for 4 years. And finaly i got the right idea! :D And if you have a plan but not finnished get some cardboard boxes and try it, its mostly free in your local store. And with a stanley knife you can make great things, this for example: Just to awesome! And if you need some help, just ask :P
bigbadthomazzz Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 Heey everyone! I had make some progress today, i made an MFD overview. Maybe there are some things you miss like engine on off and gears but i have that on me stick! Feel free to use it for your own mfd profile :)
Cali Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Why would you want some of those things on the MFD's? Like lock target, cannon mode, release weapons and radar mode? Those are a few things you want on your HOTAS. And you have start engine and landing gear on your HOTAS, some things I would change around, but it's your stuff. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
bigbadthomazzz Posted June 7, 2011 Author Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) @cali Lol, i forgot to say that Cali. Cannon mode and stuff its just a backup. I gonna get an g940 and that throttle have programable keys with light, so i can verify if me engines are on, flaps are down or gears are up :D I want the mfd's because a pcb with swiches is to expensive for me, or have you other sugestions? @deadman Thanks for your answer, i just saw i forget to thank you :) Have a good day, Thomas Edited June 7, 2011 by bigbadthomazzz
Cali Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Whew, I was wondering about you there. I know it's exciting getting the MFD's and wanting to program stuff in them. But there just isn't enough stuff you can program in them. I have a CH HOTAS and I use to use 3 modes NAV, A2A and A2G. Each mode had shift function in there also, so that meant I had a ton of buttons I could program. When I finally installed the MFD's I decided to change my CH profile to get rid of the 3 modes and act more like a real HOTAS. I still only use about 65-70% of one MFD and 10% on the other. I'm sure if i programmed the Blackshark, I'd use a lot more. I also have a G15 keyboard that I use to say things "in-game" to my team or the other. For $50 you can't beat having 50 extra buttons and looks like a real MFD. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
bigbadthomazzz Posted June 7, 2011 Author Posted June 7, 2011 Yep, thats right. And they are awesome too. I will upload an overview off me panel today. So you can see what i realy want:thumbup: A question, the outside dimensions off the thrustmaster MFD's are 14 cm width by 14 cm high right?
Cali Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Not at home, so I can't tell. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
bigbadthomazzz Posted June 7, 2011 Author Posted June 7, 2011 Heey all, I made an overview off the idea i have. Its in dutch so i will explane it :) The idea is to make an f16 look cockpit. That i can easily take apart and put in me closet when i am finnished flying. The side panels are only for me hotas, the lower part off the center panel is like an standard. It have an ipad on it for the back up instruments. The right ipod is for the engine temp gauge, fuel flow and engine RMP. The left ipod touch will be used for something i do not know yet :) I am trying to make an fully functional cockpit without the screens behind the MFD's because they are not nassecery :smartass: The programming for the ICP and mfd's are not ready yet. I have to think about that. I sold me fsx yoke so i gonna order me mfds tonight :D i am so happy! Bye, Thomas :joystick::D
bigbadthomazzz Posted June 7, 2011 Author Posted June 7, 2011 I just orderd the thrustmaster MFD's and a logitech N305 numpad to use as an ICP  I hope i recieve it tommorow or the day after that :music_whistling: Then i gonna draw the final concept and then go on with me dad to make everything :P:D
Cali Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Looks nice, I don't plan on making a full pit. Might add some pictures of panels just to make it look better. I have a TrackIR and it works great. No need to have a second monitor or ipod to put that stuff on. I can just look at it and move forward to see what it says. I know a lot of people like making a full pit, nothing wrong with that, just not for me. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
bigbadthomazzz Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 You right, but i allways wanted a pit that is functional in a way that i allways can use the outside view :D and not sit in me own cockpit and then look in the virtual cockpit
Cali Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 That would be cool, but currently I don't think you can use the HUD only view. I know many people build full set-ups and love it. Do what makes you happy. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
bigbadthomazzz Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 Currently not, but if the cockpit is finnished i will only use the hud only. Its me goal to not look trough two cockpits
bigbadthomazzz Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 I think this will be the end result. I choose to go for the rear seat off the f16. Its the smaller, its better to build then the front seat. I can make more things working! I gonna use my ipad for me left MFD. With supports remote dekstop so i can LOCatc on that so i have an realtime moving map :P:thumbup: I hope tomorrow to receive me MFD's and ICP. So i can start planning :book:
bigbadthomazzz Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 I just tought about the fact that i could just change the DED for a simple clock. Its handy for vfr flight XD
Cali Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Looking forward to seeing the end result! i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
bigbadthomazzz Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 I made some photo's of my ipod touches setup with lockon virtual panel. These are the engine gauges, ipod will be placed in the upper right off the panel. The backup instruments ipod, that will be placed under the MFD's (and yep, screen is cracked....but you virtualy dont see it with your eyes.) And the two together Looks nice isnt it! The backup instruments have a little lagg. But its not to bad. You know i have an gauge screen for 20 euro :D This is an realy inexpensive option for gauge screens. This 2 ipod touches cost me together 95 euro. And then you are good to go! Think about the fact that an 10 inch screen is around 170 :) Bye, Thomas :D
pcalvert Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Yes I am looking forward to seeing the end result too........ Looks good so far! Asus Rampage II Extreme, i7 920 @3.8Gh, 6Gb Corsair Dominator 1600hz, Msi GTX 470 Twin Frozr, Corsair 850w Mod PSU, TIR 5, HOTAS WH
