Conure Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 OMG, I cant remember exactly how long ago it was when I purchased this sim, but since then I have been patient and trying to learn, my 1st mistake was trying to learn using the training missions, I spent so much time trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, only to find out there were bugs. patch 8 came out and I went back at it,,, banging my head yet again,, only to find out still more bugs. I try to find time to sift through the forums and still squeeze in some flying time. For 2 weeks i have been trying to get a grip on navigation and landing using instruments,, seems Im always getting into trouble somewere? I read this thread as an example, I appreciate the support, but man,, im getting more stupid! I cant follow the feedback as there are opposing thoughts. I will remain patient and hope the next patch deals with the bugs so I can then continue to follow the training instructions. Hi mate, I understand your frustration but as somebody that has played since early Beta on quite a few flight simulations, part of our community involves learning, growing with and developing the product. It can be frustrating but it's a highly involved community and, in my opinion, well worth spending time pointing out issues and helping to improve things. Hi, the difference is one tells you where the localizer and slope is in relation to the aircraft, and the other provides commands to obtain and hold a desired path. Here is a quote from an old Air Force Instrument Flying Manual I dug out. "The pitch and bank steering bars display command steering information to fly or maintain a desired flightpath. The attitude of the aircraft must be adjusted as necessary to center the bars. To center the bank steerng bar, the aircraft must be banked toward the bar. Keeping the bar centered will provide the amount of bank necessary to roll in, turn, roll out, and maintain a selected heading or ILS course. To center the pitch steering bar, a pitch attitude change toward the bar is required. Keeping the bar centered will result in the proper pitch attitude necessary to fly to, or maintain the desired flightpath. When the bars are centered, the aircraft is either correcting to or is on the desired flightpath." lobo Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I did a search in the manual for "flight director" and it came up with not a single instance. Can someone point me in the right direction for more info on the flight director? The steering bars get their info from the flight director. Check out the 10A-1 manual. Page 1-87. The steering bars are not repeaters of the ILS loc and slope, they are supposed to provide bank and pitch steering commands as described in the 10A-1 manual. The yellow bars in sim now are broke. Stow'em, fly raw data ILS and it's all good. Lobo's DCS A-10C Normal Checklist & Quick Reference Handbook current version 8D available here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/172905/

lobo Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Ah cheers, so they're a loose guide to intercepting the glide slope, at which point you use theHSI and triangle on the ADI? No. They are a extremely precise guide which if followed carefully will ensure you intercept and maintain the a/c on the exactly correct loc and gs position as displayed on the HSI and ADI. They make your job as a pilot much easier. Lobo's DCS A-10C Normal Checklist & Quick Reference Handbook current version 8D available here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/172905/
