I think it needs to be said that the proposed idea has less to do with difficulty and more to do with "restrictions." In that they are a framework of customizable settings where each level is more specific of what can be customized. As a result I would suggest the following:

Easy = No Restrictions FC2, according to Mower

Medium = Light Restrictions(Loose, Basic) FC2, according to Mower

Hard = Standard Restrictions (Realistic, Halfcore) FC2, according to Mower

Real = Forced Mowerism (Mowercore, FSAMB {Flight sims are Mowerous business})

Additionally this gets around the whole issue of easy, medium, and hard being typically reserved for the difficulty of the mission itself. However I do not wish to use such simple definitions to categorize how hard a mission may or may not be and thats sorta a different topic.

I would also like to add that in an MP setting NOBODY should expect invulnerability and infinite ammo to be optional settings. These are forced off, plain and simple unless otherwise stated in a mission briefing. I feel the reasoning for this should be obvious. There are situations that warrant these settings to be on, but it such instances should be considered the "exception to the rule."

I realize this is probably a wishlist sort of comment, but I'll say it anyways. Game settings should be part of the server browser, in that if a user selects a server, the settings of the server should be viewable.

I don´t think that DCS is used as something else but Mowercore. Seriously thats the reason why 95% of the players are flying this sim. (If not they get to the state where they also want it mowercore in some months)

Anyway, for MP missions, perhaps we can convince the MP Mission makers to add something like this to the mission BRIEF:

-------------------------------

MP Difficulty: Medium / Easy

MP Slots: 6

Mission Type: COOP / PvP

-------------------------------

I agree, but i think it is up to the server to set the Settings Difficulty.

So my missions will include:

Server Settings: Open

Mission Difficulty: Medium / Easy

MP Slots: 6

Mission Type: COOP / PvP

I won't lock any settings in my missions.. i think it is draconian, and should be up the the server host what settings they run.

I suggest the Server Settings is in the Server Title not mission description.

Nope, not in the least. You're thinking PvP, and this is just not the way things are in most DCS servers.

Either way, any server owner has the right to set up their stuff as they see fit. I'm sure that at the same time, they might understand that spamming F5 on a PVP server might be really annoying, and might turn that specific view off ... or F11 vs. people who use that to gather 'airfield intel' ;) But there's not particularly huge harm to leaving F2 on, and it's great for group shots too ... especially since MP tracks can be unreliable.

I think that all the options meant to make things easier should be mainly oriented SP, to help new comers learn the sim and get combat ready, but once you step into the MP arena, REAL settings should be mandatory, just like in real, and especially for famous servers running official stats like 4c, 104th and 51st... Lets remind ourselves we are DCS and FC2 pilots, so far away from AceCombat-like games.

I think that's very nice of you and very welcoming to the new guys.

I'll see about forwarding a request to list server settings somewhere in the browser if PT hasn't done so already.

mowercore.. LMAO...

We have been running mostly with externals on up until recently. Now- we will happily leave them on whenever we are running a mission intended to be pretty easy.. If we're running one of the bigger missions - might go either way, honestly. We might not think about it until after the mission is running. If people have already began starting, etc.. we're not likely to change it...

Bottom line: We're slowly phasing them out, but not making a huge production out of it. If you're in our place, and you need them on- just ask.

I will say this about labels, though: "fuggeddaboutit"

My point of view & the way of =STP=

Server settings:

Our servers are running with full real settings except for the external views.

So no radio assist, no game mode, no lables etc.

External views are always ON because DCS is a wunderfull looking simulation and sometimes it's more fun to watch the guys flying than fly by yourselfe.

What about the risk of cheating...? Well every pilot should be able to choose by himselfe if he need to cheat or not.

Important is that nobody else get handicapped!

Mission settings:

I'm the creator of 99% of all missions running on the STP servers.

My missions are not really realisitc.

- too many enemy units

- too many dangerous SAMs

- units positioned in open fields

BUT we want to have fun for some hours against challenging anti-air technologies.

With 8-16 clients you need to have many enemys if you want to have fun for some hours.

And the enemys have to be in open fields that you are able to find them.

But sometimes we want to fly in really full real.

No external views and only one "life".

But only sometimes.... :)
