This link shows how the real gun smoke trail starting when the gun starts firing => 0:18

smoke trail length = gun firing duration

In this link you can see how the gun smoke trail in the Sim starting only after the gun stops firing => 0:29

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcsDRhbfbMQ

smoke trail length < gun firing duration

Yet this picture shows how a missile in the Sim can leave a very very long smoke trail

(By the way good one kRush - indeed a WOW moment !!!)

This link shows how the gun smoke trail fades away in a few seconds (about 5-6 seconds 0:06 - 0:011)

Is it possible to change the timing so the gun smoke trail will start when the gun starts firing, and will end when the gun stops firing? (so the smoke trail length will illustrate the gun firing duration)

looks like a timing problem to me (IMHO) ...

This is something I hope to see ED implement in a later patch.

That's clearly a result of latency and other multiplayer issues, not a failure of modeling - smoke trails for the gun work just fine in single player.
