Allen123 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I've been flying this mission now for a few days, trying to get JTAC to respond with some sensible information. No luck, he never gives me any targets. I contact him on around WP4 as described in the mission briefing. Anywho, researching this problem I opened up Sunset Sierra in the mission editor, and I can't see any targets in there at all. As a matter of fact it's similar in several other missions, albeit not all of them. What gives? Do I have a b0rked install (1.1.0.7-full + 1.1.0.8 patch). Downloading 1.1.0.8 full as we speak. Am I missing something in the mission editor? Random targets or something? nomdeplume Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 The mission editor has a feature to hide units. This prevents them from appearing on the F10 map, in the 'mission planner' prior to a mission, and in the mission editor itself. If you click on the 'units list' button near the bottom of the toolbar you'll get a listing of all the groups in the mission. You can select them and unhide them using that list, at which point they'll appear on the map in the editor (as well as the other places I mentioned).

Allen123 Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 Truly depressing that JTAC doesn't do what he's supposed to. Can't really understand why someone has this issue while others don't. Back to the drawing board. beers Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 1) do you have all of your radios turned on? 2) did you set the radio mic switch to the right radio? 3) is the correct radio tuned to the correct frq? 4) do you get any audio return from your radio call to JTAC? ya see, if everything is set up right and you are just too far away, you'd hear fuzz or broken transmission, so your location is probably not the issue. If you have the radio on the wrong frq, the mic switch on the wrong radio, or even the radio not turned on, you will still get the radio menu, you can still get the JTAC menu and select the radio commands, and you still hear yourself say the statement. Only trouble is that you just said it to yourself, or to your wingman, or to AWACS... At first I could have sworn that JTAC didn't work, then I got a bit more experience, and now it seems to work wonderfully (with the exception that the poor guy can't prioritize the battlefield worth a darn). 2600K @ 4.2GHz, MSI P67A-GD55, 16GB G.Skill @2133 , GTX 970, Rift, SSD boot & DCS drive [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Allen123 Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 I'm flying with easy comms, and JTAC responds, he just doesn't provide me with any targets. Just tells me that I may depart (which is boring...) I've checked that the radios are on and tuned to the correct frequencies. The other flights also produce some chatter, so I'm assuming everything is okay in that dept. Opening the mission in the mission editor, going through the units list, but not doing anything apparently does something as the sim asks me to save the file. I saved the file under a new name and did a diff, files differ. Doing the same in say River Rider does not change the file. Not sure if this is at all relevant to this issue tho. Haven't had the time to fly the modified one. beers Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I had not tried that specific mission. sorry, i guess i was just guessing. Also, never tried things with "easy comms", i'd expect that would negate the mic switch portion of things, probably even the freq. ... I use the JTAC in the campaign missions all the time, try it in one of those, see if you get a different reaction? 2600K @ 4.2GHz, MSI P67A-GD55, 16GB G.Skill @2133 , GTX 970, Rift, SSD boot & DCS drive [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
jazjar Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 this occurs in the Midnight Train to Georgia mission. The problem in Sunset Sierra is that the JTAC doesn't send you any data over the datalink. I think both missions need work from ED. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Kaitsu Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I couldn't get response from JTAC either. Tried modifying the mission by moving JTAC about half way closer to the targets and got immediate response far before wpt 2 already... There must be a certain range how far JTAC sees the targets and maybe a probability of target detection depending on the range too? Anyone know the JTAC target spotting range and UHF radio range?
Madman777 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I think it has something to do with JTAC not seeing the targets. Might be outside the detection range or something like that. i7-12700k, 32GB Ram, RTX 3060 12GB, TrackIR 5, Lots of SSD Space, etc etc DCS World - All the cool modules
BimC Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 First time I flew Sunset Sierre I got in contact with JTAC. Since then, I haven't been able to get any response. I am holding position over waypoint 3 at 14.000 ft. I set the VHF FM 2 radio to 65.5 as described in the briefing. I have tried all three radios mic's; UHF, VHF 1 and 2. Still no response. Wolf Rider Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Take off, circle the base and make a beeline for waypoint 3 (the one before POO) HDG west after clearing the WP contact JTAC and they should come on - properly.
