EtherealN Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) my 5870 eyefinity 6 cards pull more juice Which strange sort of 5870 cards are these that violate the thermal envenlope mandated by the chip manufacturer - AMD? Sure, some of that number is the components on the reference board, so with a strange extra-beefy setup with more RAM you might get 10 or 20 watt more, but the only way to get significantly more power draw from those cards is to overvolt them aggressively. newer GPU's even pull more. True. A Radeon 6970 has a TDP of 250, meaning that two of those cards would end up pulling 500. With CPU and other components this would approach 700W total load, yes. Saying "newer" is technically wrong - it's not about whether it's a new or old card, it's about the specific card's design. A GTX560Ti has a TDP of 170W. The really insteresting one though is the 6870, which is the successor to your 5870's. The TDP actually went down to 151, meaning that two 6870's would draw 302 Watts at full load. Heat has never been a problem in my rigs because of the PSU. I'm fairly certain you didn't understand my point... ;) Edited June 19, 2011 by EtherealN [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
EtherealN Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I changed the order of the PSU to CORSAIR AX-750W in place of the TX version. Need a fully modular design. I just assembled another PC with a non modular unit for a friend, and I dont want the mess I saw. :D Ah, the AX-kits are really nice. I use an 850w AX unit myself. Superb stuff. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
bumfire Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I have the H70 and it barely makes any sound at all. There are speed regulators in the package. You must be deaf then, I have the h70 with the regulators attached and the thing still drives me mad with the sound. But I spose its comes to how far away you are from the pc, I am about 3 feet away and the thing is on the same level as my head more or less as the wires wont stretch to the floor, or I would have the pc floor mounted.
Pilotasso Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Why dont you change the fans? But probably be prepared to take a performance hit. .
Pilotasso Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Heres my PC spot. :) Heres the reason behind the air cooling demands. This is an Attic. Some insulation is in place but the summer here can be deadly. And My virtual cockpit. Not much to look at but gets migs their deserving craters! :D .
Pilotasso Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 You see me flying there? (its in that position for unobstructed view of the screen) :D .
bumfire Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Why dont you change the fans? But probably be prepared to take a performance hit. I would change fans, but where my pc is situated and with it being summer ( even though our summers are shite ) the ambient temp is hot, so a rise in temps I couldnt really afford. But I will say this, this h70 was my first purchase of its type, I will never buy another closed water cooling loop again. My bluray burner just broke, wont burn any discs, imgburn keeps saying somethign about tracking failure, so when I buy another I will prob go back to normal HSF and ditch the h70.

asparagin Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 I think in Portugal the prices are a bit higher than in Germany: I summed everything up and I get 1600 euros here. That SSD is the most expensive one.. Have fun building and post some results afterwards. I'm interested also in how quiet it is. Pilotasso Posted June 25, 2011 Author Posted June 25, 2011 Get cases with 200/230mm top and side fans. For the rest get Noctua. There are a few other silent models and brands using nicer color :D but they have either sleeve or ball bearings which do increase in noise and vibration problems as they age. .

sofie_59 Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 (edited) Ok , you dont like noice so this one is not for you then! BUT if you have a heat problem in the future ,I can recomendend this one, it is a little noicy but it does the job well. Scythe 120mm Ultra Kaze Fan, 3000rpm I have two of those and a H70 so it is a little noicy But my temp in case is low! I would recommend a search on google for it if interested. We used to have a truly spectacular national debt, but that one's pretty much done with now, which is always somewthing. Pilotasso Posted June 25, 2011 Author Posted June 25, 2011 Similar story here regarding items of lower VAT. Transportation might explode prices up to 100% as they are to be sold to private sector though. If that's the case, get rid of the noisy H60 he doesnt need to get rid of the H-60, only its fan. Switch it with 2 silent models. 2 instead of one because the stock fan has a much higher static pressure capability than the models you normally see on sale so you need to compensate with a second. .

Cali Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 (edited) Looks nice, can't wait til I can build a new system.
