Maulkin Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 So I had the manual printed out, but then I discovered I have three different versions of the manual on my computer!!! One that I had in my thumb drive (which I used to take to the print shop), another in the DCS A-10C install directory, and then I downloaded a new one from the DCS website to discover it is different from the other two. Is there some kind of version number hidden in the manual somewhere that can tell me which version it is or at least a date or something so I can determine which one is the most up to date? I fear I have spent $50 CDN for nothing. :( --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars
latearrival Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Good question Malkin. The pdf version that I have been referring to has a Created and Modified date of 1 April 2011 (Adobe Reader/File/Properties). There are no references to version dates within the document itself that I could find. ED - it would be great to have a version date on the first page or two of the manual, especially given that the forums are full of references to page numbers that are already, or will one day, become incorrect. cichlidfan Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I fear I have spent $50 CDN for nothing. :( Unfortunately, there is still a newer version coming. It was supposed to be in 08 but it did not get put in correctly. So when 09 comes out there will be a new version. The PDF properties information is your best bet for checking for a version date. Maulkin Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 I checked the PDF properties but the date given is the one when I put it into that folder, and does not reflect the actual creation date of the file. Is the one on the webpage right now the most recent version of the file? --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars
latearrival Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Yes. But just to be sure, did you check properties using Adobe Reader not Windows Explorer? cichlidfan Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Yes. But just to be sure, did you check properties using Adobe Reader not Windows Explorer? That's what I meant. That will tell you when Word 97 (in this case) generated the file. latearrival Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I notice that the manual released with v1.1.0.9 now has a date that we might be able to use to confirm the manual version in future. Page 15 says "Sincerely,The DCS: A-10C Warthog Team, 06 June 2011". Hopefully this date will get updated with each revision of the manual. derelor Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Just open the DCS A-10C Flight Manual with Adobe Reader and press "File" -> "Properties". The latest manual (included with v1.1.0.9) has a modification date of "30.06.2011 14:54:54" and 671 pages. 1338 - beyond leet ED Forum rules EN|DE|RU
RglsPhoto Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I hope there will be a changlogs in the first pages of the manual,so we can know the difference between each versions like the RL manual. If the manual is updated,it' should be a simpe job to add/update a changlog. The latest manual (included with v1.1.0.9) has a modification date of "30.06.2011 14:54:54" and 671 pages. Agreed. It's a very minor thing, but a date in the doc itself will still help reduce confusion where people have printed copies of the manual. And RglsPhoto's change log would help all of us know which bits of the manual we should dip back into. JS Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 (edited) Hmmm..... I just downloaded the 1.1.0.9 full install package of files on the website (not the patch), and the Flight manual that was included (in the /docs folder), seems not to be the latest one. It was created 2011-04-01, and does not have the date on page 15. Does that mean that I also need to download the patch just to get the latest Flight Manual? Can I extract just the manual without installing the patch? EDIT: It turns out that I apparently only got version 1.1.0.8 installed. Even though I downloaded the full 1.1.0.9 (the torrent version). Anyway, I'll just get the patch and hopefully get the latest manual with that. Edited July 25, 2011 by JS
latearrival Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 JS, you shouldn't have to install the patch to get the updated manual. I did a clean install & the manual was found in: c:\program files\eagle dynamics\dcs a10c\doc\ (not "/docs"). JS Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Did you download the web or torrent version? I got only version 1.0.0.8 with the torrent download, but I have now installed the patch and got the latest Flight Manual.
latearrival Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I downloaded and installed the torrent version, but I'm glad you got the right version in the end. Dch60 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Probably a dumb question, but is there a way to compare two pdf files like you can with Word docs?
blaster454 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 FWIW, the 30-Jun-2011 document file has a version 0.9 entered in the Subject box.
