snwboardn Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 All of a sudden I just start wrestling with the stick to keep it from banking or rolling over, and it is a huge chore to even keep it in the air, and no chance of just flying straight and level. What in the hell can be causing this? :joystick: Ripcord Might be a long shot but I know sometimes my X52 will bank hard and disengage the autopilot... I actually found that it was my Z Rotation kicking in and engaging my rudder... My fix was adding a dead zone to my twist. Might be a long shot but worth checking, if I were you I would add a dead-zone to your Z Rotation and your X-axis just to rule out your joystick... It is like the OSI model for games; always check the physical before you check the application.
Ripcord Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 I flew it again. The EAS Armed switch did appear to be the problem that was causing the warning light, etc. at the start of the mission. But that was not the cause of my flight control issues. The track is painful to watch, partly because I am wrestling constantly with the damn stick the whole way, and partly because my Track IR 5 flipped out for a couple minutes about halfway between wp 1 and wp 2. Then things improved a bit and I was actually able to kick in the autopilot, just briefly. But it would not remain in autopilot, the flight control problems soon return. This cannot be just a function of trimming or not trimming the aircraft. The thing flies like a truckload of bricks. And it did not used to be this way. Between this and the occassional loss of stability with the track IR, this sim is really unplayable. Gotta find what I am doing wrong. RipcordRipcord01.trk [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

And because of this, I have begun to suspect that the new TM Warthog HOTAS is causing the problem. Maybe this dead zone suggestion is the way to go here. I will say that stepping hard on opposite rudder is one of the way I am able to recover from these sudden rolls-overs. Question -- looking now at my option settings. I have saitek rudder pedals and of course the TM WH HOTAS. I have axis x and axis y mapped to the HOTAS, but also assigned to the rudder pedals. Why is that? Maybe that is my problem? I just cleared the X and Y axis (pitch and roll) from the saitek rudder pedals and added in a 10% deadzone for the Z axis. Let me go test this and see if this helps. Ripcord [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cibit Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 That sounds like the issue. I have had several games that recognize multiple controllers and assign the axis to whatever the app decides. I imagine your next post will be a successful one but I will view the trk now anyways:) i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

The game assigns various axis to all of your controllers by default - the TM Warthog and MFDs are the only ones it has any pre-programmed cleverness for. So, I'd suggest going through the controls and clearing out anything that doesn't make sense. You can hit RightCtrl+Enter within the sim to pop up a window showing what the game is seeing as your control inputs. You'll probably find when you're fighting the sim that its inputs are nothing like what you think you're giving it. In this case, that'd be because the rudder would be overriding your stick inputs.
Cibit Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Watching the track you have major turbulence to start with and your climb over airspeed is too much. you will wallow like a whale at 10 degrees of climb and a speed of 150 knots IAS. I have never seen an AI wingman overtake a player leader before. Is your throttles going up to the maximum revs? I forgot to look in the track:) i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

Thanks to all those that chimed in to help. This is a damn good forum, and I am certain I'll be back again for more help. RIpcord [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I forgot to look in the track:) Sure, I agree, but that was the best I could do just to keep it level. Trim should address the turbulence, to some degree, but that wasn't the problem. Fixed the axis settings and got my flight control back. Even managed to land! Thanks again for the good advice, guys. Yeah that AI wingman goes barrelling out ahead. I like to slowly move the throttles forward and focus a little more on keeping the plane going straight. Remember this a runway start in a 4 aircraft flight. When I get my rampstart checklist procedures down a little better, we won't have that issue. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ivanwfr Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Speaking of 2 controlers axis fighting each other, I can see exactly what it does with RightCtrl+Enter when I activate both of my Logitech G27 pedals I currently use like a rudder. But it's quite OK when I take care to keep one inside it's dead zone at all times. Input sampling does not make any average value from 2 inputs from the same DX axis, it takes one or the other at random!
