Daniel Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Hello, will DCS A-10C ever support surround sound via S/PDIF pass-through to be used with external audio decoders? Thanks. BBQ Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I never actually understood what the "pass-through" does. Is it just a fancy name for optical output?
ED Team c0ff Posted July 5, 2011 ED Team Posted July 5, 2011 Pass-through does allow passing an unaltered Dolby- or DTS- encoded surround signal through a two-channel S/PDIF connection to an appropriate decoder. It also means that the source should be specially encoded. Currently our sound engine does not support Dolby nor DTS encoding. Even if we implement it, we'll have to license a right to advertise such support, and I don't think it's worth the trouble. Dmitry S. blkspade Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 What you're looking for would require you to have a sound card that supports Dolby digital Live or DTS connect. Either of those would allow you to get the game's surround sound out over digital connections. Mostly that leaves you with Creative XFI cards or cards based on the XFI chip. There may be other options but those are the most prevalent. http://104thphoenix.com/

Thanks c0ff,you confirmed my fears. And thanks blkspade, I didn't know about Dolby digital Live and DTS connect. happyslayeruk Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I have the Creative X-Fi titanium and it has Dolby Digital Live. It's good because when I'm at the desk I get the surround as per normal cards (via standard 3.5mm connectors) but when gaming on my TV it sends the games sound as 5.1 DD via S/PDIF to my AV amp and sounds excellent. Before I had a normal card with S/PDIF out but it would only send game sound as 2 channel stereo so DD Live makes all the difference.
