flyICE
I have been playing Flanker -> LockOn -> FC ->FC2 on and off for many years but my flight time has always been very limited and sporadic. I hardly played online before, maybe a couple times in HyperLobby six years ago. I just wonder for a starter like me what would be the best server to begin with (there seem to be quite a few in FC2). I fly F-15 and A-10 in FC2. I'm ok with these two planes, but certainly not considering myself excellent. I'm living in US east coast. I just want to play online casually first, less than 10 hours a week or so. Never used Teamspeak (?) before, is it required for online play? Thanks! EtherealN
The 104th server is pretty nice in my opinion, though I haven't sampled all of the servers out there. For DCS:A-10C I like the 74th server. As for Teamspeak, not strictly required, but some servers do have use of TS as a requirement (like the 74th). They do this through passwording the server and having the password on their TeamSpeak server. Even when it is not required I'd still definitely recommend using it - you can be a lot more effective if you have easy modes of communication with your alliies - it helps turn it into proper air combat rather than what is affectionately (well, not really :) ) known as "air-quake". flyICE
thanks for reply! I couldn't get on the 104th b/c I failed the file integrity check and I'll figure that out later. I did get on to a few other servers and it was fun. I have couple questions, though. First, is it possible to record track file of online play? I really want to but there don't seem to be an option for it. Second, this is my first time play dogfight online and I was totally trashed. I flew F-15 and I can routinely win 1 vs 2 Su-27 guns only DACT in FC2. But online I was totally owned by Flanker guys. I need to be better, no question about that, but I just wonder is it true that F-15 is at disadvantage when playing online against Su-27 (guns only)? If so then I just give up since I don't have time to get over this. If not then I'll stick with F-15 and make myself better.
Cali
The 15 is good online, you just have learn how to use it. Single and multiplayer are two different beast. It is just going to take practice. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
EtherealN
Track files for online play are automatically recorded, you'll find them in the Temp folder. flyICE
So it's true with equal skills F-15 vs Su-27 should be 50:50? Ok, then I just need to practice more online... :-) Online players are so different from AI. Humans are brutally unforgiving...

But I looked at C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2\Temp but did not found trk files. Is it the right folder? Sorry for this potentially dumb question. EtherealN
Not quite 50-50. In a neutral BVR engagement the 15 would typically come out on top. It really is a case of what tactics get employed though - the 15 has the actives, but the 27 has ERs and assuming simultaneous launch the ER's will reach the target faster than the slammers. On the other hand the slammers can do their own thing in the latter stage of flight. Basically, the F-15C is better in the BVR regime than the Flanker, but the flanker is definitely not a joke and a good Flanker pilot will know how to exploit the platform's strengths. And don't go into a guns fight with a Flanker unless you know you can end it quickly. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

Is it the right folder? Sorry for this potentially dumb question. That's interesting. You should have files named something like client-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXX.miz and client-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXX.miz.trk, with the X-es being date and time. Since you have it installed in Program files it might be the case that the OS is preventing it from saving those. Do you have suffix listing active? flyICE
I kind of knew that F-15 is better on BVR due to its radar and missiles. I was doing gunz only online though and those Flankers seem to have better thrust and turning performance in dogfight. Well, in a way, I just want to know whether it was a stupid idea to go guns only with Flanker online... By the way, I found the Temp folder, it's in: C:\Users\SystemOnly\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2 Don't why win7 hides these files so deep... EtherealN
Win7 does that to protect the Program Files directory. It's considered a system directory and as such is pretty much sacrosanct. This is to prevent programs from deliberately or accidently destroying themselves or other programs. I replied to your BFM thread, though it should be noted that the flanker does not have better thrust than the Eagle.
