Quick video of my CDU with the display in place. It looks great(which the video doesn't show well :)) but the only problem I need to solve is that I need to look almost straight down on top of it to see everything. This is due to the screen being a little more than 1/2" below the surface of the CDU face plate.

I hope that I can use a fresnel lens or some other trick to "lift" the text up to just below the face plate.

Oh.... I've not installed the switches for the panel yet... they're on order. That's why the buttons are flush with the panel and I'm not pressing them. :D

Thanks guys! :)

First let me clarify one thing. In the first post I used the term "export" and I am not sure if that is technically accurate. I am using the EMC (Easy Monitor Configurator) tool from Icemaker to display the CDU data on that screen. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

Here's the thread on the EMC - http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=71831

For the hardware, I am using a 5" LCD I picked up from Ebay a year ago for a different project. Never used it, so I decided to try it in the CDU and see how it works. Pretty pleased with it, although I am hoping I can work out a way to bring the graphics closer to the face plate. Going to try a fresnel magnifying lens first.

I have three monitors running - two 1920x1080 and the smaller one at 768x1024. So my resolution in DCS is set to 1920x3184. Pretty simple.

I'll take a few photos to show how the monitor is attached and show the entire setup a little better.

Still a WIP, but unless I run into any problems with the switches for the buttons, I don't expect it to change much.

The only software I am using is the EMC I already mentioned.

Thanks!! :D

I hope to shoot a better video of it later so that it's easier to see the text on the display. Shot this with my phone and it was hard to hold it steady and press the UFC buttons to change the screens.

You're doing a great job. The truth is very interesting that the steps are giving. The idea of using a Fresnel glass to give a little more increase is very good. Have you used any specific software or like for example Have you used the software to Opencockpits Sioc?

One more question. Where did you get the alphabet and numeric keys for the CDU? I am thinking of buying Opencockpits but they aren't big enough. They are designed for a Boeing 737 FMC.

Check this: http://www.opencockpits.com/modules.php?name=Content2&pa=showpage&pid=61

Your conection is like this?

Nope, not using any software other than HELIOS and the EMC utility at this point.

I made them. :D

So you made them, they are really nice man. Well I'll have to make with some polymer powder and accelerator.

Keep going and soon you will put a pair of engines hehehehe

Thanks for the answer. Cheers man.

I used a 5inch lcd for that test. It's really too large for the panel since it is as wide as the panel and blocks the LSK buttons. I have been looking for a lcd that works and I've found one that is smaller, but would fit in between the LSK buttons and allow a backplate with pushbuttons under those. I need to cut the panel to fit that lcd and test it all out. Hope to do that in the next couple of weeks.

Yeah, I plan to made some more CDU panels at some point. I even have a PCB design that would work with a matrix board like the X-keys interface. I've not been able to have this produced yet as it will be very expensive to make only one or two of them.

The display opening in my current design is 3.44"x2.50" and this LCD appears to have viewable area of 72mmx4omm (2.835"x1.575"), so it could work if I reduced the window to that size, however I don't think you'd be able to line up the text with the LSK's with a screen that small.

Here's what I have now that I am preparing to test....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/270773922560?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

The active area on this is 72mm x 53.56mm (2.835"x2.109") which is big enough (I think) to work. The attached image compares the two sizes. The green colored square is closer to the actual CDU design and the blue square would fit this display from ebay.

Looks exactly like mine, it will fit a 3.5" screen between the lsk's with no problem. If you make the top layer out of 1/16 acrylic you can bring the screen right up to the top surface. The only difference is I'm using this monitor with VGA input

I have a pair of those 3.5" sitting down stairs waiting for this and the RWR. They work pretty well. Same guys sells 8" 800x600 panels which are perfect for the MFCDs as well.

I also got a 5.6" and 5.0" from that guy for the ADI and HSI. They work and his shipping is fast, but he does not combine shipping on multiple items. Also, the writing on the display menus is Chinese (at least on the displays I got) but it's not too hard to figure out.
