Hello. I just got DCS Black Shark via steam the other day and I'm enjoying the hell out of going around learning all the switches in the cockpit. But I can't seem to assign a mouse button to turn that mouse look mode on an off. I have to keep hitting LALT C constantly. I found the controls page where you can assign a mouse button and I've tried Mouse button 3 and Mouse button 2 and nothing on my mouse responds to that command.

Isn't mouse button 2 the right mouse button?

I tried searching several times and kept getting errors so I apologize if this is a simple issue to search for. And how do you close that cockpit door!? I can get the whole dang helicopter running but can't close the door!!!

Can't help you with the mouse button thing. But to close the cockpit door, the default is RCTRL c. Or if you go faster than ~150kph it'll close on its own. :-)

It's RCTRL c, not RALT c. My bad.

hmmm

I figured out the close door command, RCTRL C.

But none of the keys or buttons I assign work once I'm in the chopper. I changed the command from LALT C to SPACE for mouse click cockpit and it doesn't work. Also assigned mouse button 2 and that doesn't work.

Does the control menu under options just not work if you reassign keys?

Ideas?

I've figured out how to get the assign keys stuff to work. The drop down menu in the top part of the controls screen has 3 choices,

View Commands

KA-50 Game

KA-50 Real

If I assign the new keys to all of these it works in some cases.

I still cannot get into the clickable mouse cockpit with the new keys assigned. I have to click LALT C, at that point I can move the yellow pointer around and move my head, click buttons etc. After doing this the new key assignments work, I have my right mouse button mapped to click out of this mode but once I'm out, it's back to LALT C.

The controls menu looks like this should work for the new buttons assigned. Is there another assignment to get into the mouse click cockpit?

Oh and A10 is on sale on steam for $40! Picked that up this evening and plan to go see what I can break in that cockpit!

I've discovered several things.

The Helicopter will not take off with only one engine running.

The batteries apparently never run out?

The APU needs to be started seperately before attempting to start the engines.

The APU will not start without the fore and aft fuel pumps turned on.

Turning off the power to the hydraulics in flight is...interesting.

If you do not Trim this aircraft it's like trying to ride a bull.

Flying with the keyboard is extremely hard.

Loving the game!

I just tried that and it worked without any problems. I simply cleared "Gun fire", then cleared "Clickable mouse cockpit mode On/Off" and then assigned the Space key to the latter.

Now, hitting space I can cycle through the three mouse modes:

  • Normal mode: mouse acts as cursor, scroll wheel rotates rotaries (HUD brightness etc)
  • View mode: mouse acts as mouse view, cursor can click buttons, scroll wheel zooms in and out
  • View mode with invisible cursor, nothing clickable, scroll wheel zooms in and out

The important thing here is to figure out where to configure it. You already discovered that Game mode and Realistic mode have independent keyboard settings. Which of these modes you fly depends on the "Difficulties" setting on the "Gameplay" tab: if "Game flight mode" is checked, then you fly in Game mode and the keyboard assignments from "Ka-50 Game" are used.

If the checkbox is not checked, you fly in realistic mode and the keyboard settings from "Ka-50 Real" are used.

I hope this clears things up a little.

I then tried to map "Clickable mouse cockpit mode On/Off" to mouse button 3 instead of Space, but that didn't work. Clicking that mouse button didn't change the mouse mode. Buttons 1 and 2 I couldn't even assign.

Haha, yeah, there's so much to learn, and so many ways to crash. :-)

A few thoughts:

"The Helicopter will not take off with only one engine running."

Without external payload, it may be possible to take off with one engine, but it's surely not recommended.

"The batteries apparently never run out?"

I don't think they ever do, but I'm not sure.

"The APU needs to be started seperately before attempting to start the engines."

The APUs is absolutely required for engine start. So, in short: yes. :-)

"The APU will not start without the fore and aft fuel pumps turned on."

The APU is fed from the aft fuel tank, so only aft fuel pumps are required (had to test this one out in cockpit, wasn't sure about forward or aft).

"Turning off the power to the hydraulics in flight is...interesting."

I imagine it is. :-)

"If you do not Trim this aircraft it's like trying to ride a bull."

Yup.

"Flying with the keyboard is extremely hard."

What? I didn't think it's even possible.

Depending on your wallet, a simple joystick will already be a huge help. A full HOTAS takes flying to a completely new level, and rudder pedals are extremely important for choppers as well. And then there's TrackIR (and Freetrack and others) that will allow you to control the view without touching any keys, hats or anything. Again, new level. After that, there's always pit building. I don't intend to do that, but I suppose it'll be yet another level. Or, as the saying goes: The sky is the limit. :-)

Hi,

I do not know about DCS: Black Shark, yet.

But I do know going through the set-up process creating a .map profile for my CH Control Manager to DCS: A-10C, there are pre-sets in the Saved Games folder that have to be cleared out, 1st.

I just took the folder for the REAL full simulator and stashed it away in a My Documents separate folder in case I might need them; I never did need them. I forget, maybe I did a restart then. The sim recreates the REAL folder, minus the pre-sets. Then start eliminating identical commands in Options manually to just the one controller you need for that button and build your .map profile.

I am currently right where you are in Black Shark, then I remembered earlier today, what I stated above.

Yeah, I just purchased online here to Home, DCS: Black Shark, last week. Now they are offering both, here, on sale. That figures!

Cheers

I just completed my 2nd modification of a .map profile Capt_Crunch gave me for my CH Products controllers.

Disregard what I said above. Making a profile in DCS: Black Shark is not the same process it is when I created my DCS: A-10C profile. The path from C:\ (whatever your program name for Black Shark) leads to Config\Input\Aircrafts\ka-50\joystick ; then the default.lua file . That default.lua file needs to stay put.

His .map was written one or two updates ago and what he had, did not gel with version 1.0.2 . I had to re-map everything. But at least I had his experience to create something that works. But as what I said above, there are presets that need to be cleared in the Options' Controls that will interfere with anything you create. Well, for me, anyway. He said to run in Mapped Mode, but I find if I do that I only get one controller and a mouse. I get the 3 controllers in Direct Mode. Those 2 modes relate to the CH Control Manager.

What I have currently, works good enough. But it still needs revision and modification. In both aircraft I fly in full REAL simulation mode and that is no picnic.

At some point I will also make a profile for the GUI gaming mode.

Have fun with yours, too.
