Bee_Sting Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 would i do myself a disservice if i get this graphic card? EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 Video Card. i will have a quad core 3.4(amd black edition) and 16ghz of ram in this new build.
PeterP Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 (edited) It highly depends what you want to do with it and what resolution it will have to run. I would say it would be enough to run DCS at 1280x1024 with 4xAA. BtW: Where you got the 16 GHZ ram from ;) Edited July 30, 2011 by PeterP
EtherealN Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Also depends what it would be replacing, and what you'd pay for it. It's not bad kit - if I remember right it's what Wags is using. But to compare with the current stuff it would depend a lot on what the asking price is. Also, note that it's a dual-GPU card, so make sure your PSU has enough juice to run that thing without exploding. Bee_Sting Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 the 16ghz isn't the graphic card ram! hahahaha! my choice is the 5850 BE or this card! which one would you choose? i think this card has 1792 mem ram.
EtherealN Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 His point is that there's no such thing as 16GHz RAM. ;) (You mean 16GB, right? ;) ) I don't know the 5850 very well, but from memory I think I would actually go for the 5850, but I am unsure. PeterP Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 (edited) Yes - the Ghz was puzzling me. - but I figured it out myself and thought that my hint was great enough that he also see his mishap. ;) The 5850 is the superior card. Point. (DCS also works better with singlecore cards.) Compare benchmarks - (goggle for it) and it is eyefinity ready - even if you may have to use adapters for the monitors. Bee_Sting Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 hahahaha! gbs i meant! i heard there was a webite that u can compare cards againts cards! you can view specs and performances. 1

PeterP Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 (edited) HAHA :megalol: That made ma laugh :) I saw one guy having in his signature his PC specs, and among things it said something like "... xxx MHz/sec" :D I had to giggle also because it is like saying : twenty seconds of a pound. :D (not exactly your example- but you get my point. your example MHz/Sec is in the same system... ) ram is size. - and GHz = how much in a period of time Edit:Bee_Sting - please don't mind if two old Scumbags (that have a favour for physics) make a little fun out of you - nothing personal and no offence! --- now sourious! Get the 5850 !! Edited July 30, 2011 by PeterP
RSharpe Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 the 16ghz isn't the graphic card ram! hahahaha! my choice is the 5850 BE or this card! which one would you choose? i think this card has 1792 mem ram. The 5850 is a more modern GPU that will use less power, and has more effective memory (1GB). That 1792MB VRAM is shared across two GPUs, so you actually only have 896MB available. The 295 would actually be more powerful in most circumstances. It's really a strange comparison to make since the cards are from different generations and are from different market segments.
